Si te gustan las películas basadas en hechos reales que cuentan historias de vida complejas pero a la vez, conmovedoras, "Ordinary Angels" es la película que debes ver este fin de semana.

En resumen, es la historia de Michelle Schmitt, una niña que espera por un transplante de hígado mientras su salud se deteriora cada vez más. Su padre está consumido por las deudas, por el tratamiento de la enfermedad de su hija y los altos costos que significaron la estancia de su esposa en el hospital mientras daba a luz, quien lamentablemente muere allí.

En medio de este panorama de duelo, enfermedad y dolor, llega a la vida de esta familia Sharon Stevens, quien un día por causalidad se topa con la historia de esta niña a través de un periódico, y de allí en adelante se propone hacer todo lo posible por ayudarla a ella y a su familia.

El personaje de Sharon tiene una situación de salud mental, y es que es una persona con adicción al alcohol. Y en su propio camino de rehabilitación (en todos los sentidos) consigue en Michelle un motivo para dedicar todas sus energías a una acción bondadosa y entregada: mover cielo y tierra para que Michelle tenga su transplante de riñón.

Sharon se mueve para buscar los recursos que ayuden con los gastos médicos de la niña y hace muchas cosas más, que terminan dándonos una lección sobre la voluntad de ayudar, el altruismo, el verdadero interés en ofrecerle una compañía, un consuelo, una palabra de aliento al otro.

Es evidente la perspectiva religiosa de esta película, pero no porque esté principalmente centrada en un Dios o un templo, sino porque habla de la gente que comparte creencias, una espiritualidad en común, quienes desde su solidaridad y empatía deciden unirse para conseguir cosas realmente increíbles para una pequeña familia.

Muchas veces los milagros ocurren gracias a personas bondadosas que se unen por una causa, de allí el título de la película "Ángeles inesperados". Y de allí el título de mi publicación, pues las montañas de nieve representan el clímax de la película.

Estuve revisando la historia real y el problema de alcoholismo en el personaje de Sharon es solo parte de la ficción, sin embargo, me parece que fue un hilo conductor interesante para darnos a conocer a este personaje tan importante de la historia, desde un lugar humanizado, con sus luces y sombras. Y quizás también poder ver, cómo las personas que tienen alguna enfermedad mental, luchan un poco con los estigmas, sus propias historias y las recriminaciones por lo que hicieron o dejaron de hacer a causa de sus problemas. Llega uno a pensar el malestar que puede generar intentar hacer las cosas bien, si siempre es visto y criticado como "el/la alcohólica", el que tiene "conductas de adicto".

Una película, además, que nos pone en perspectiva en relación a la vida y la salud, sobre todo por su tema central, la donación de órganos.

If you like movies based on true events that tell complex but at the same time, touching life stories, “Ordinary Angels” is the movie you must see this weekend.

In a nutshell, it is the story of Michelle Schmitt, a young girl waiting for a liver transplant as her health deteriorates further and further. Her father is consumed by debt, by the treatment of his daughter's illness and the high costs of his wife's stay in the hospital while giving birth, who sadly dies there.

In the midst of this panorama of grief, illness and pain, Sharon Stevens arrives in the life of this family, who one day by chance comes across the story of this little girl through a newspaper, and from then on she intends to do everything possible to help her and her family.

Sharon's character has a mental health situation, and that is that she is a person with alcohol addiction. And on her own road to rehabilitation (in every sense) she gets in Michelle a motive to devote all her energies to a kind and dedicated action: to move heaven and earth so that Michelle can have her kidney transplant.

Sharon moves to find the resources to help with the girl's medical expenses and does many other things, which end up giving us a lesson about the will to help, altruism, the true interest in offering a company, a comfort, a word of encouragement to the other.

The religious perspective of this film is evident, but not because it is mainly centered on a God or a temple, but because it talks about people who share beliefs, a common spirituality, who from their solidarity and empathy decide to unite to achieve really incredible things for a small family.

Many times miracles happen thanks to kind people who unite for a cause, hence the title of the movie “Unexpected Angels”. And hence the title of my post, as the mountains of snow represent the climax of the movie.

I was reviewing the real story and the problem of alcoholism in Sharon's character is only part of the fiction, however, I think it was an interesting thread to give us to know this important character of the story, from a humanized place, with its lights and shadows. And perhaps also to see how people with mental illness struggle a bit with stigmas, their own stories and recriminations for what they did or did not do because of their problems. One gets to think about the discomfort that can generate trying to do things right, if you are always seen and criticized as “the alcoholic”, the one who has “addict behaviors”.

A film, moreover, that puts us in perspective in relation to life and health, especially for its central theme, organ donation.
