The Long Game (2023) : A Story of Triumph and Diversity
The story follows JB Peña, an Army veteran who moves with his wife to Del Rio, Texas. Peña is going to start a new job as the superintendent at San Felipe High School, even though is not an easy job he feels good with it. With a good job, a beautiful wife and a wonderful house he doesn’t feels completed or totally happy because he has a new goal to achieve and it was to become the first Mexican-American member of the all whit Del Rio Country Club, it was necessary for him since that way he could feel that he was finally accepted by the country he risked his life to serve. Unfortunately the group of republicans who manage the club denied the membership to JB. Despite the refusal received, JB’s life had other plans for him, while he was driven his car an errant golf ball crashes his car window and smacks him right on the head. When he realized what happen he saw a group of Latino teens playing golf, they were caddie at the club and they developed their own pleasure for the game. JB identified the teens and realized that they were students of the San Felipe High School, the school were he is superintendent and just like that, he formed the school first golf team. JB knew that it was not an easy task due to the state championship are hosted at the Del Rio Country Club, the club that for its racist managers denied JB membership. No matter the circumstances he was committed to guide the teens to the victory and they received help from JB friend Frank Mitchell who became his benefactor. Since this moment the teens and JB will start a training to play in the championship, despite the denial of the boys parents and the racism of the time they trained, dreamed, believed in themself and never give up until they reach their dream.
The story of The Long Game is a testament to the fight of racism that many groups in the world has fought to finally get their rights. JB Peña a veteran who fought for his country only wanted to be treated as equal, this is what is going to be reflected in this movie with the director of Julio Quintana, a story of determination and resilience and as many others with a deep message of never give up and always fight for your goals. The Long will premiered on April 12th, in theaters.

The movie was premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2023, receiving praised for the representation of authenticity, the direction and performances of this new group of actors. The story of a group of Mexican-American fighting for an opportunity to be part of game that was only for white people and that wasn’t allowed for them to play it. The Long Game want to transmit that human spirit that any dream can be possible. The movie was well acceptance in the festival and want to comit the same when it is premiered in theaters. The audience will received a movie that celebrate diversity, resilience and the power of storytelling. A true story with a true message of perseverance and unity.

The movie was film between Colombia and Texas. The filming process occurred as plan with a great synergy between the cast and production staff and director. As usual some critics emerged about the plot of the movie, a story of racism and hate that some people mention that needs to be in the past while others mention that is history and always good remember it. Despite the different postures of some critics which is OK because create an expectation in the audience, the movie directed by Quintana wants to give to the audience the true story of a group of boys that fight for a dream and that if you have a dream don’t give up to it, fight, achieve your goals and try to be happy. Jay Hernandez portrays JB Peña. Hernandez is an American actor who made his debut in television with the series Hang Time and in 2001 he made his film debut in the romantic drama Crazy/Beautiful alongside Kirsten Dunst. He is also known for his role in the films Friday Night Lights 2004, Hostel 2005 and Bad Moms 2016 ans since 2018 he plays Thomas Magnum in the reboot of Magnum P.I. Julian Works as Joe Trevino. The actor is known for his role as Mateo Chavez in the series 9-1-1: Lone Star 2020, also for his role in the movie Beautiful Boy 2018. Jaina Lee Ortiz take the role as Lucy Pena. Ortiz is an American actor and dancer, she is known for her role as detective Annalise Villa on the police drama Rosewood 2015 and since 2018 to the present she is in the lead role as Andrea Herrera in the drama series Station 19. Brett Cullen is an American actor who has appeared in a variety of films and television shows including Ghost Rider 2007, Person of Interest 2011, The Last Rescue 2015 but actor is better known for his role as Dan Fixx in Falcon Crest 1986 and as Sam Cain in The Young Riders 1989. Oscar Nuñez is a Cuban American actor and comedian. He is best known for his role as Oscar Martinez in the acclaimed TV series The Office. Paulina Chávez as Daniela Torres. She is recognized for her lead role in the TV series The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia and for her role in Fate: The Winx Saga 2022. Gregory Diaz as Gene Vasquez. Diaz is an American actor, singer and dancer, is best known for his role as Quentin in the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and as Sonny in the musical drama In the Heights. Cheech Marin as Pollo. Marin is an American actor, comedian, musician and activist. Marin is recognized for be part of the comedy act Cheech & Chong. Dennis Quaid as Frank Mitchell. Quaid is an American actor and gospel singer. He is known for his leading man roles in movies and in television. Quaid received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Far From Heaven 2002.

Julio Quintana is an American director who born in Los Angeles and is the oldest of five brothers. During his childhood the director and his family moved many times to different towns, making this a life experience that contributed in Quintana fascination with cultural differences and future inspiration. His directorial debut was with the movie The Vessel 2016, a movie that deal with themes of faith and redemption through tragedy, the director is also known for the movies Blue Miracle 2021 and To the Wonder 2012. Now with The Long Game, the director also co-wrote the script with Jennifer C. Stetson and Paco Farias and is bringing a story of overcoming and bravery.
The story of a Latin teens trying to be part of a game that was only played by white people is an inspiration for many others. The Long Game is based is a true story of a Latin American man that the only he wanted is be part of a group, he wanted be treated with respect and equality. This movie touch the Latin community in USA and the audience to see one more how that acceptance was fight in a golf field. The director and the cast feels very happy for accomplished this amazing project and hope the audience really enjoy the movie that is transmitting the hope, fear, determination and commitment of a group who fights for what was right.
