In the beginning of the movie, Chellaiya goes to sell his only goat to buy his grandson Kathir's choice of dais for Diwali festival, but it is stolen at the last moment. Goat-buying Vellachamy and old Chellaiya with his grandson Kathir set out to find the thieves' car, and it turns out that all this is set in the wake of the Hindu festival of Diwali. A ceremony is meant to be a matter of joy for all, but the impact of this joy on the lives of the poor and helpless can be seen very realistically through the elderly Chellaiya and her grandson Kathir.

It can be seen that on the occasion of Diwali, the old Chellaiya tries unsuccessfully to sell his grandfather's land to buy his grandson Kathir's choice of clothes and also how helpless he feels after failing to raise some money. When the thieves steal others' goats and run away, Chellaiya's grandson finally gets his beloved goat back and is seen keeping his old husband's promise by taking out his savings and finally buying the grandson his favorite dress and finally enjoying the joy of Diwali gets a chance.
