Grand Budapest Hotel - Discovering an exceptional director ENG/SPA

Good morning, Movies & TV shows community, I come with a review that I couldn't wait to do. After quite some time, and with the desire to give the best possible way to the blog world in the blockchain, but precisely because I've been watching many movies and series but had no time to write about them, is that I want to make an effort and make use of my free time for this activity. Besides, I can't refuse when something like this happens, I need to talk about this movie, I can't believe I hadn't seen anything of this style before, and I want to tell you everything I discovered, in case there is someone like me, who doesn't know Wes Anderson yet.

Just yesterday I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel, I had it pending for a long time and while the scenes were passing, all the time I wanted to talk about it, so I promise it will not be a normal review, but you will see here everything that interests me when I see a movie, and if you have any recommendation or you can tell me which other one I should see of this great man, I will do it with pleasure. The actors are top notch, the director had been highly recommended to me, and with great reason, the movie, nothing to criticize. Charming all around.

First, the story: it tells with drama and some comedy how Zero came to be the owner of this hotel, in the present that we are shown, in decadence. It tells how it all started with the former concierge and how they meet and where they go. Gustav (who will go on to be the main character, and I hope he steals your heart as he did with me) and Zero, and they will take you on an enjoyable journey, with hilarious and delirious touches as well. In its visual world, it is unique, it has good scenes and better shots. It seems orchestrated, as if it were a choreography. The actors move with such naturalness that it is very easy to believe that this story was real, or taken from real events at least.

In his adventures, Zero is Gustav's apprentice and that ends up making him his right hand, or inseparable henchman. Faced with difficulties, Gustav, who is somewhat solitary and even authoritarian, will need Zero and will not hesitate to entrust him with several things. But without going into detail, this is almost minor in the context of the work of art that the film is by itself, in its completeness. Being stories within stories, it is set in a fictitious country in Europe, in the year 1932, war and these styles already old, this as a detail seems to me mind-blowing.

Gustav is obsessive to detail, for that reason everything happens very fast when he talks about the golden age of the hotel, he is in every corner and everyone in the hotel comes to him to finalize details. He greets and dismisses guests, very charismatic and friendly.

Some colors and the particular charm of this Europe at war, precarious and at the same time glorious, stand out over the scenes. In a characteristic that I understand has this director, a style, a personal touch. Even the policemen are charming characters in a certain way. The resource of a certain repetition seems to be a wink to the spectator. And the romanticism, besides the language, in its shades of colors, in its tones of speech, and even in the way the characters look at each other, really makes it a world in which I want to immerse myself.

The apex of the story is when a guest leaves Gustav in his will a work of art, and everything begins to seem crazy, many characters who do not know him, nor know who he is, who want to kill him, or get rid of him, they consider him a nuisance and it is not for less, the family is stripped of the work of art and Gustav is the owner of it. But as I said before, everything will be difficulties, throughout the film there is a lost document that later appears hidden in the painting, just the hilarious touch in which our protagonists were involved...

I think what I can highlight about Wes Anderson is that when using colors, he doesn't hesitate to use both pink and gray colors, and the contrast makes it possible for me to clearly experience different things as a viewer. The dramatic scenes and the romantic fairy tale atmosphere carry me along smoothly and almost living in first person what I am seeing.

One thing I had to find out was the costume design, and while I didn't write down the person's name, I do remember this detail, they won an Oscar for that. Everything is impeccably cared for, even when they are in costumes, it is obviously thought out and cared for. Perhaps the funniest moment for me was when Gustav in regalia and “bad smell” asks Zero for his perfume, and he clearly forgot it. It speaks volumes about the character he is, as he is always perfumed and he is presented that way, as a man whose perfume lingers for several minutes after he has passed through a place.

The rest of the characters, all outstanding actors, although they have minor roles, for that very reason they shine, a baker, a murderer, evil relatives, the elderly, etc. All this makes the director a genius at what he does. Mixing the colors and melancholy of the war with Gustav's personal drama and the sophistication of the hotel, in various comic and eccentric situations. The passage of time is a key theme in the film and besides showing it in the state of the Hotel and its high or low seasons, it also does so through the now owner, Zero, and all the adventure that led him to that position and why, precisely, he loves so much to go to that hotel and being the owner, to sleep in a small room.

The end of this movie left me wondering if there would be more details of other characters that could be included. Not a sequel, but surrounding stories. Being able to see the hotel in decay, old, old, old, and having the flashback about its glory days, makes you travel with the characters. I hope you liked this summary and do not hesitate to tell me which other one I should see.

Undoubtedly a film that deserves to be seen more than once, and with which I start my period of paying attention to this director.

Después de bastante tiempo, y con ánimos de darle la mejor forma posible al mundo blog en la blockchain, pero justamente porque vengo mirando muchas películas y series pero no tenía tiempo de escribir sobre ellas, es que quiero esforzarme y hacer uso de mi tiempo libre para esta actividad. Además, no puedo negarme cuando algo así ocurre, necesito hablar de esta película, no puedo creer que no hubiera visto nada de este estilo antes, y quiero contarles todo lo que descubrí, por si hay alguien como yo, que no conozca aún a Wes Anderson.

Justamente ayer vi El gran Budapest Hotel, la tenía pendiente hace mucho tiempo y mientras pasaban las escenas, todo el tiempo quise hablar sobre ella, asique te prometo que no será una review normal, sino que verás aquí todo lo que me interesa cuando veo una película, y si tienes alguna recomendación o puedes decirme cuál otra debería ver de este gran hombre, lo haré encantada. Los actores son de primer nivel, el director me lo habían recomendado muchísimo, y con grandes motivos, la película, nada que criticar. Un encanto por todos lados.

Primero, la historia: narra con dramatismo y algo de comedia cómo Zero llegó a ser dueño de este hotel, en el presente que nos muestran, en decadencia. Cuenta que todo comenzó con el antiguo conserje y como ellos se conocen y a dónde van. Gustav (que pasará a ser el protagonista, y espero que robe tu corazón como hizo conmigo) y Zero, y te llevarán por un viaje ameno, con toques hilarantes y delirantes también. En su mundo visual, es único, cuenta con buenas escenas y mejores tomas. Parece orquestada, como si de una coreografía se tratase. Los actores se mueven con tal naturalidad que es muy fácil creer que esta historia fue real, o tomada de hechos reales al menos.

En sus aventuras, Zero es aprendiz de Gustav y eso lo termina convirtiendo en su mano derecha, o secuaz inseparable. Ante las dificultades, Gustav que se muestra algo solitario y hasta autoritario, necesitará de Zero y no dudará en encargarle varias cosas. Pero sin ir al detalle, que esto es casi menor en el contexto de la obra de arte que la película es por sí misma, en su completitud. Tratándose de historias dentro de historias, está ambientada en un país ficticio de Europa, en el año 1932, guerra y estos estilos ya antiguos, esto como detalle me parece alucinante.

Gustav es obsesivo al detalle, por esa razón todo sucede muy rápido cuando habla de la época dorada del hotel, está en cada rincón y todos en el hotel acuden a él para ultimar detalles. Recibe y despide a los huéspedes, muy carismático y amable.

Destacan sobre las escenas algunos colores y el encanto particular que tiene esta Europa en guerra, precaria y a la vez gloriosa. En una característica que entiendo tiene este director, un estilo, un toque personal. Hasta los policías son personajes encantadores de cierta manera. El recurso de cierta repetición parece un guiño al espectador. Y lo romántico, además del lenguaje, en sus tonos de colores, en sus tonos de hablar, y hasta en maneras de mirarse entre los personajes, realmente lo vuelve un mundo en el quiero sumergirme.

El apice de la historia es cuando una huésped deja a Gustav en su testamento una obra de arte, y todo empieza a parecer de locos, muchos personajes que no lo conocen, ni saben quién es, que quieren matarlo, o deshacerse de él, lo consideran un estorbo y no es para menos, la familia se ve despojada de la obra de arte y Gustav es poseedor de ella. Pero como dije antes, todo serán dificultades, durante toda la película hay un documento perdido que luego aparecerá escondido en la pintura, justamente el toque hilarante en el que se vieron metidos nuestros protagonistas…

Creo que lo que puedo destacar de Wes Anderson es que al usar los colores, no duda en usar tanto colores rosas como grises, y el contraste hace que pueda experimentar con claridad cosas diferentes como espectadora. Las escenas dramáticas y la atmósfera de cuento romántico me llevan sin sobresaltos y casi viviendo en primera persona lo que estoy viendo.

Algo que tuve que averiguar fue el diseño de vestuario, y si bien no apunté el nombre de la persona, sí recuerdo este detalle, ganaron un Oscar por eso. Todo es impecablemente cuidado, hasta cuando se encuentran con ropajes, está evidentemente pensado y cuidado. Quizás el momento más gracioso para mi fue cuando Gustav con ropajes y “mal olor” le pide a Zero su perfume, y él claramente lo olvidó. Habla mucho del personaje que es, ya que siempre está perfumado y lo presentan así, como un hombre cuyo perfume perdura varios minutos después de haber pasado por un lugar.

El resto de personajes, todos actores destacables, si bien tienen papeles menores, por eso mismo se lucen, una pastelera, un asesino, familiares malvados, ancianos, etc. Todo esto vuelve al director un genio en lo suyo. Mezclando los colores y la melancolía de la guerra con el drama personal de Gustav y la sofisticación del hotel, en diversas situaciones cómicas y excéntricas. El paso del tiempo es un tema clave en la película y además de mostrarlo en el estado del Hotel y sus temporadas altas o bajas, lo hace también a través del ahora dueño, Zero, y toda la aventura que lo llevó a ese puesto y por qué, justamente, ama tanto ir a ese hotel y siendo el dueño, dormir en una habitación pequeña.

El fin de esta película me dejó pensando si habría más detalles de otros personajes que pudieran incluirse. No una segunda parte, sino historias aledañas. Poder ver el hotel en decadencia, antiguo, viejo, y tener el flashback sobre su época gloriosa, te hace viajar con los personajes. Espero que les haya gustado este resumen y no duden en decirme cuál otra debería ver.

Sin dudas una película que merece ser vista más de una vez, y con la que doy inicio a mi época de dar atención a este director.
