2025 Movie #4 | Caddo Lake (2024)

This blog is a personal journal of all the movies I watch during a year which enhances my overall viewing experience. The ratings that I give on each of them are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews.

Spoiler-Free Movie Plot & Trailer: I would say that this movie is best going in completely blind even though the main plotline breakdown and even the trailer doesn't spoil anything really.

"When an 8-year-old girl disappears on Caddo Lake, a series of past deaths and disappearances begin to link together, altering a broken family's history."

From here on out I will talk about the movie which potentially spoils the surprise a bit giving it less of an impact.

Caddo Lake (7.5/10)

Caddo Lake is a movie that was released on HBO streaming last year and it was recommended to me by a friend as he knows that I generally enjoy Time Travel movies. So I knew in advance that was what it was about while it's only kind of revealed halfway into it. These movies are generally all very similar in plotline as there is at least 1 character which is in a loop which doesn't make sense as in the chicken or the egg problem. So without someone being brought back in time the future events would not happen which brought them back in time. This is no different for Caddo Lake but I'm generally very forgiving for this and I really did enjoy this movie for what it was.

First of all, I loved the location that was used and it really adds a lot to the vibe of the entire movie. While it's a missing person movie, the unique angle is that the person is missing in time an not in a space. There are 2 seemingly different stories going on which in the end very well blend together in a way that all makes sense. The acting was also good and the movie wasn't too long or too short.

Overall I had just a good time watching this without being blown away unlike my 2 favorite Time Travel Movies Primer (which is I guess the only one with no paradoxes in it) and Predestination (where the story was just excellent). I gladly rate it a 7.5/10 more because of personal preference while I likely will barely remember it in a couple of years.
