2025 Movie #14 | Dune Part Two (2024)

Dune Part Two (6.1/10)
So after hearing everywhere that the 2nd part of this movie is so much better than the 1st along with the fact that it gets a whopping 8.5/10 on imdb on almost 600k votes I ended up giving it a go this weekend. I did first watch the recap below of the 1st movie on youtube which actually explained a lot and for me was just way better in 5 minutes compared to watching a 150+ minute movie
Spoiler-Free Movie Plot:
"Paul Atreides continues his mythical journey as he unites with Chani and the native inhabitants of Arrakis, the Freman. They are on a warpath for revenge against the conspirators who destroyed Paul's family. Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, Paul tries to avoid a terrible future that only he can foresee."
So I also didn't really like the 2nd movie for many of the same reasons why I didn't like the first. There were just too many plotlines and details I was just not caught up on. Why was his mom pregnant, why did she get these letters on her head, many of the characters I had no clue who they were anymore since it had been so long since I saw the first film, ...
At least the singing lady voice wasn't all over this one all the time which I did appreciate and it all did look pretty good again so there is that. However, the entire story just feels so generic. With the main character hollywood poster boy Timothée Chalamet being the 'chosen one' , the Hollywood poster girl Zendaya as his love interest, lots of big talking in this invented language, many characters that really look cool but also nothing more than that, and so on ...
Dune Part Two Trailer:
So for me this was just another movie that I simply don't get why it gets such massive scores as there was nothing really about it that made me excited or feel anything at all. The only thing that it has going for it is that the visuals are pretty nice. I guess mostly this is just a personal preference in movies and I score this a 6.1/10 when it comes down to how much I enjoyed it as it wasn't really boring and this time around there were no annoying soulds all the time non stop. Similar now to my feeling after finishing the first movie not having any plans to watch the 2nd, I don't want to see the 3rd installment.
