2025 Movie #1 | Heretic (2024)

This was the first movie that I watched in 2024 with an eye to at least get to 1 each week by the end of the year and possibly closer to 100 even though I doubt that I will get there. I had this one on my mind ever since I watched the trailer knowing it would be something I very much might enjoy. Howevern my expectations very much were tempered as it wasn't a movie that I saw in any of the 2024 best movies list while a friend saw it and told he found it ok but nothing more. It's always better to get into a movie without too much expectations so that was good.

Heretic (7.8/10)

Spoiler-Free Movie Plot: Two young religious women who go around preaching their religion end up in a house of a man who doesn't really have the best intentions.

This is the type of movie that has many things in it that I generally like. It takes place mainly in 1 location with limited actors and a lot of co,nversations which were interesting. While it's labaled a horror movie, it never really scared me that much unlike the Movie Barbarian which in a way has a very similar setup but felt way more intense to me.

Especially the first 2/3 of the movie were very intriguing with the plot developing at a steady pace keeping you wondering where it was all going. The last 3rd of the movie to me went a bit too extreme I would say in the storyline as as everything before was just way more believable. I really liked the acting of the 3 main characters. At the same time I always kind of kept believing/feeling that Huge Grant was a 'good guy' as I kind of related to his intelligece and the rhetoric he was bringing with his arguments which kind of didn't fully match with his actions.

The ending did make a lot of sense and I pretty much wached the entire movie being intrigued from the start until the end. At the same time it also didn't fully blew me away even thougg it will stick for me and I'm glad to give this one a very solid 7.8/10 mainly because this really is my type of movie and they didn't screw it up.
