The Verona Arena

avatar
Hello everyone!

The arena in Verona is a Roman amphitheater that was built in the 1st century AD and is one of the best-preserved buildings of this type. This ancient structure is located in Piazza Bra in the city center, is still in use and can accommodate up to 22,000 people (limited to 15,000 for security reasons). It is estimated that at the beginning, 30,000 spectators could watch gladiator fights there.

Witam wszystkich!

The arena is famous for large-scale opera performances. The first play, Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, was performed in 1913.

Arena słynie z przedstawień opery na dużą skalę. Jako pierwsza w 1913 roku została wystawiona sztuka Aida Giuseppe Verdiego.

On the day we visited Verona, preparations were underway for another opera performance, so we only saw the building from the outside.

W dniu, kiedy zwiedzaliśmy Weronę trwały przygotowania do wystawienia kolejnego przedstawienia opery, dlatego oglądaliśmy budowlę tylko z zewnątrz.

The arena in Verona was built earlier than the more famous and larger Roman Colosseum.

Arena w Weronie powstał wcześniej od bardziej znanego i większego rzymskiego Koloseum.

Initially, the amphitheater was located outside the city walls, but this changed in the 3rd century after the city walls were enlarged.

It is definitely an interesting ancient building and it was worth seeing. Although I would prefer to do it during the period without preparations for the performance, to better watch the whole thing.

Chociaż wolałbym to zrobić w okresie bez przygotowań do przedstawienia, aby obejrzeć ją lepiej całą.

It's really so beautiful, the architectural designs might be old yet the building still looks so imposing.

I agree, especially since this one is almost 2000 years old :)
