"Silenced" was a painful experience.

A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to see "Silenced" for the first time, a Korean film released in 2011 that, based on real life events, told us the sad story of a school for the deaf where multiple students were victims of sexual abuse.

Just by reading this premise you will be able to understand why I was a little doubtful about whether I should talk about it, not so much because I don't consider it an important topic (quite the opposite), but because my priority when reviewing any film is usually evaluate its ability to be enjoyable, or failing that, its ability to leave an imposing message on us as a viewer, for better or worse.

It is not my first detour with the subject and Spotlight films come to mind that, like Silenced, were built around tragic true stories with the aim of raising awareness about it, or, in a certain way, celebrating those struggles in which the abusers were "defeated" even though they benefited from the system.

What I'm trying to get at is that Silenced is a very particular case, not so much because of the subject matter it deals with but because of the naturally unsatisfying nature of its own climax, something that its director and writer (Hwang Dong-hyeok) recognizes with a level of realism. almost painful.

You see, although there was a lot of evidence to criminally punish the abusers of the Gwangju Inhwa school (Teachers and principals), those involved had a vulgar level of control over the system, something that allowed them to escape the complaints with practically no repercussions. . Apart from this, the Korean criminal system worked in their favor, allowing those legally responsible for the victims to agree to the acquittal of the abusers in exchange for financial compensation.

This is a horrible situation that every moment within the film knows how to portray perfectly, and, although many times the abuses portrayed on screen are extremely explicit, everything serves to create a devastating and disgusting, but very effective final product.

Although Silenced is full of brilliant performances, good direction and a very neat rhythm, it is difficult to evaluate it objectively leaving aside the crudeness of its plot, and, at least, we can be relatively satisfied with the fact that its creation It had a positive effect on society (reaching the point where the laws had to be reformed that left the abusers unpunished).

Hace un par de días tuve la oportunidad de ver por primera vez "Silenced" una película coreana estrenada en el 2011 que, basada en eventos de la vida real, nos contaba la triste historia de una escuela para sordos en dónde múltiples estudiantes fueron víctimas de abusos sexuales.

Nada más con leer esta premisa podrán entender por qué estaba un poco dudoso respecto a si debería hablar de ella, no tanto porque no la considere un tema importante (todo lo contrario), sino porque mi prioridad a la hora de reseñar cualquier película suele ser evaluar su capacidad para ser disfrutable, o en su defecto, la capacidad para dejar un mensaje imponente en nosotros como espectador, para bien o para mal.

No es mi primer rodeo con el tema y se me vienen a la mente filmes coño Spotlight que, al igual que Silenced, se construyeron alrededor de trágicas historias reales con la finalidad de crear conciencia al respecto, o, en cierta forma, celebrar aquellas luchas en las que los abusadores fueron "derrotados" aunque estuviesen beneficiados por el sistema.

A lo que quiero llegar es que Silenced es un caso muy particular, no tanto por el tema que está tratando sino por lo naturalmente insatisfactorio de su propio climax, algo que su director y escritor (Hwang Dong-hyeok) reconoce con un nivel de realismo casi doloroso.

Verán, aunque existían muchísimas pruebas para castigar penalmente a los abusadores de la escuela Gwangju Inhwa (Profesores y directores), los implicados contaban con un nivel vulgar de control sobre el sistema, algo que le permitios zafarse de las denuncias sin prácticamente ningún tipo de repercusión. Aparte de esto, el sistema penal coreano jugaba a su favor, permitiendo que los responsables legales de las víctimas pactaran la absolución de los abusadores a cambio de una compensación económica.

Está es una situación horrible que cada momento dentro del film sabe retratar a la perfección, y, aunque muchas veces los abusos retratados en pantalla pecan de ser extremadamente explícitos, todo sirve para crear un producto final devastador y repugnante, pero muy efectivo.

Aunque Silenced se encuentra plagada de performances brillantes, una buena dirección y un ritmo muy prolijo, es difícil evaluarla de forma objetiva dejando de lado la crudeza de su argumento, y, al menos, nos podemos quedar relativamente satisfechos con el hecho de que su creación produjo en efecto positivo en la sociedad (Llegando al punto en que se tuvieron que reformar las leyes que dejaron a los abusadores impunes).
