Scott Pilgrim VS The World (2010) review: I'm (also) just like him fr.

Taking advantage of the recent announcement of an animated series inspired by the Scott Pilgrim comics, I wanted to revisit the iconic 2012 film directed by Edgar Wright: Scott Pilgrim VS the World, where it faithfully adapts one of its volumes.

I admit that I have never been the biggest lover of this film, although this has never affected my ability to appreciate its numerous virtues, starting from a great casting, to a pace of editing and directing that very few filmmakers could have executed at that level and the ability to capture very well the essence of the graphic novel created by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

On this occasion, obviously, I rediscovered all these elements that I had appreciated so much a couple of years ago when I saw it for the first time, but at the same time I knew how to deal with everything that I did not used to understand every well.

You see, the greatest virtue of Scott VS The World lies in the very creative nature of its universe, capable of organically mixing references and nods to geek culture without hindering the narrative and enhancing the personality of all the characters, providing density to the universe that surrounds it and making us connect with their character's desires and fears.

What at first can be interpreted as "pretentious" is nothing more than courage to bombard the viewer with information and seemingly random bites that later start to make sense, a parade of set ups and punch lines where we must abandon our knowledge of the real world. and embrace the chaotic, cartoonish nature of this reality.

On the other hand, although his characters have superhuman abilities, we cannot ignore that internally they are all an extremely realistic representation of mental states with which we can all feel easily identified, turning Scott Pilgrim VS The world into an inexhaustible source of phrases, quotes and jokes that will remain etched in our mind forever.

Scott is a jerk, but we can all empathize with him, why? Because we're all a bit of a jerk too.

Beyond this there is not much to say, the special effects are great, the cast is full of iconic performances, the music is great, etc.

Aprovechando el reciente anuncio de una serie animada inspirada en los cómics de Scott Pilgrim, quise volver a visitar la icónica película de 2012 dirigida por Edgar Wright: Scott Pilgrim VS the World, en dónde adapta de manera bastante fiel uno de sus volúmenes.

Admito que nunca he Sido el mayor amante de este filme, aunque esto nunca ha afectado mi habilidad para notar sus numerosas virtudes, partiendo desde un casting estupendo, hasta un ritmo de edición y dirección que muy pocos cineastas hubiesen podido ejecutar y que a la vez, captura muy bien la esencia de la novela gráfica creada por Bryan Lee O'Malley.

En esta ocasión, obviamente, me reencontré con todos estos elementos que había apreciado tanto hace un par de años cuando la Vi por primera vez, pero al mismo tiempo supe hacer las pases con todo aquello que no comprendí muy bien en su momento.

Verán, la mayor virtud de Scott VS The World radica en la naturaleza tan creativa de su universo, capaz de mezclar orgánicamente referencias y guiños a la cultura geek sin entorpecer la narrativa y realzando la personalidad de todos los personajes, brindandole densidad al universo que les rodea y haciendo que conectemos con sus deseos y temores.

Lo que en un principio puede interpretarse como "pretencioso", no es más que valentía para bombardear al espectador con información y momentos aparentemente aleatorios que luego van cobrando sentido, un desfile de set ups y punch lines en dónde debemos abandonar nuestros conocimientos del mundo real y abrazar la naturaleza caótica y caricaturezca de esta realidad.

Por otro lado, si bien sus personajes cuentan con capacidades sobrehumanas, no podemos ignorar que internamente todos son una representación extremadamente realista de estados mentales con los que todos podemos sentirnos fácilmente identificados, convirtiendo Scott Pilgrim VS The world en una fuente inagotable de frases y chistes que se quedarán grabadas a fuego en nuestras mentes.

Scott es un imbécil, pero todos podemos empatizar con el, ¿Por qué? Porque todos somos un poco imbéciles también.

Más allá de esto no hay mucho que decir, los efectos especiales son estupendos, el casting está plagado de varios performances iconicos, la música es genial, etc.
