Although it had a slightly irregular start, "Hey, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" has been proving week after week that it has the potential to become one of the best Spider-Man series we've seen in a long time, worthy of being mentioned along with gems like Spectacular Spider-Man, or the iconic animated series of the nineties.

And after the 10 episodes that make up its first season have been released, I am happy to recognize that we are facing a refreshing paradigm shift that, although far from perfect, knows how to capture very well the essence of the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, one of the most famous superheroes in history and an undoubted icon of popular culture.

Although the spider's appearances on the small and big screen have not been lacking, it is no secret that they have been of inconsistent quality, having on one hand works of art like Into the Spiderverse and its sequel, but coexisting with some mediocre pieces like Far From Home, No Way Home, or the infamous "Marvel Spiderman" of 2017.

For this reason, since its announcement, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man caught my attention, not only because it was a perfect opportunity to correct the bitter mistakes that had soaked the character for some time, but because the idea of creating a story isolated from the MCU (But inspired by several of its elements) seemed wonderful to me, especially if the creative minds behind the project took risks by playing with new elements, while preserving the essence of Peter Parker and the streets of New York that surround him.

And indeed it was, as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man can be presented as a mix of very familiar elements and others that are totally innovative, creating a story where it is not always clear what is going to happen, and even those more predictable aspects are enjoyable, all thanks to a cast of characters that allows other less recognizable faces of the Spider-Man universe to shine appropriately.

As I said before, not everything is perfect, the animation is 50/50, working well in moments of action and one or another dramatic confrontation, but leaving something to be desired in the moments of waiting between one and the other.

The same happens with the writing, showing us characters that are very easy to connect with (Special mention to Lonnie Lincoln) but repeating several of the most tedious characteristic notes of Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

Aside from this, we are faced with a solid series, which takes its time to gain momentum and which develops at a good pace, full of winks and references to the MCU that feel organic within the story and capable of having the potential to keep us hooked for years, that is, if Disney Plus does not decide to cancel it unexpectedly since the number of viewers did not meet their expectations.
