Although since I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago I have been absolutely obsessed with Mad Max Fury Road, I must admit that for some reason I did not feel the need to continue immersing myself in the universe created by George Miller through the other films of the franchise.

Don't get me wrong, I know that Mad Max: The Road Warrior is one of the most important contemporary action films that exist, and if one day I gave it a chance, I know that I would find myself in front of a fascinating fable with solid action and an audiovisual language unique in its kind.

The point is that for me Fury Road is one of those films that works perfectly as an isolated show, where many times the viewer must fill with their imagination the spaces that the script decides to intentionally leave empty, and the lack of information responds to a cinematographic philosophy that very few filmmakers would dare to follow, comfortably mixing giant action sets with narrative minimalism, a perfect example of "show, don't tell".

After watching "Furiosa - A Mad Max Saga", I have not changed my opinion at all regarding this universe, and for that reason it is commendable that Miller managed to keep me hooked for two and a half hours with what will surely be the best action movie of the whole year.

The key? Recontextualize without betraying the soul of Fury Road, establishing itself as a powerful prequel that not only manages to stand on its own, but also ends up reinforcing one of the strongest aspects of the original film: the mystical character of Imperator Furiosa, played then by the excellent Charlize Theron.

On this occasion the role of Furiosa belongs to Anya Taylor Joy, one of the neatest actresses who have emerged in recent years and the person partially responsible for the rebirth of "the hollywood stars" as a concept. At her side we have other great actors like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and Lachy Hulme, all of them being physically unrecognizable and doing a brilliant work(something that is not surprising within the franchise).

Unlike the contained nature of Fury Road (which focuses almost entirely on a wild chase through the wasteland), as its name implies, Furiosa takes us through her entire life, explaining how she ended up being the right-hand of Inmortan Joe as well as the events that led her to be one of the most skilled warriors/smugglers.

What could have become a tedious recounting of events (something very typical in prequels), instead, becomes a dense exploration into the psyche of a tormented character in a film that without giving up moments of action, knows how to make us empathize even more. with her actions.
Furiosa – A Mad Max Saga, treats the viewer with respect and fills the gaps left by Fury Road without breaking the mythological nature of the universe.

It has a frenetic pace, impeccable direction, lots of iconic characters, and one of the most satisfying climaxes I've seen in a movie in a long time.

Aunque desde que la vi por primera vez hace un par de años he estado absolutamente obsesionado con Mad Max Fury Road, debo reconocer que por alguna razón no sentía la necesidad de continuar sumergiéndome en el universo creado por George Miller a través de las demás películas de la franquicia.

No me malinterpreten, sé que Mad Max: The Road Warrior es uno de los filmes de acción contemporáneos más importante que existen, y, si algún día le diera una oportunidad, sé que me encontraría ante una fábula fascinante con acción sólida y un lenguaje audiovisual único en su especie.

La cuestión es que para mí Fury Road es una de esas películas que funcionan perfectamente como espectáculo aislado, en dónde muchas veces el espectador debe llenar con su imaginación los espacios que el guión decide dejar vacíos intencionalmente, y la falta de información responde a una filosofía cinematográfica que muy pocos cineastas se atreverian a seguir, mezclando cómodamente sets de acción gigante con minimalismo narrativo, una muestra perfecta del "muestra, no cuentes".

Luego de ver "Furiosa - A Mad Max Saga", no he cambiado para nada mi opinión respecto a este universo, y por eso mismo es loable que Miller lograra mantenerme enganchado durante dos horas y media con lo que seguramente será la mejor película de acción de todo el año.

¿La clave? Recontextualizar sin traicionar el alma de Fury Road, erigiendose como una precuela potente que no solo logra sostenerse por si sola, sino que aparte termina reforzando uno de los aspectos más fuertes del film originario: el místico personaje de Imperator Furiosa, interpretado por la excelente Charlize Theron.

En esta ocasión el rol de Furiosa le corresponde a Anya Taylor Joy, una de las actrices mas pulcras que han surgido durante estos últimos años y la responsable parcial del renacimiento de "las estrellas de Hollywood' como concepto. A su lado tenemos a otros actorazos como Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke y Lachy Hulme, todos haciendo un trabajo brillante y físicamente irreconocibles (Algo que no es de extrañar dentro de la franquicia).

A diferencia de la naturaleza contenida de Fury Road (que se enfoca casi enteramente en una persecución desenfrenada a través del wasteland), como su propio nombre lo indica Furiosa se encarga de sumergimos a través de toda su vida, explicando cómo terminó siendo la mano derecha de Inmortan Joe así como los eventos que la llevaron a ser una de las guerreras/contrabandistas mas habilidosas.

Lo que bien podría haberse convertido en un tedioso recuento de eventos (Algo muy típico en las precuelas de este tipo), se convierte en una exploración densa dentro de la psique de un personaje atormentado que, sin renunciar a los momentos de acción, sabe hacernos empatizar aún más con sus acciones.
Furiosa - A Mad Max Saga, trata al espectador con respeto y llena los espacios dejados por Fury Road sin romper la naturaleza mitológica del universo.

Tiene un ritmo frenético, una dirección impecable, gran cantidad de personajes icónicos y uno de los climax más satisfactorios que he visto en una película desde hace mucho tiempo.
