The Amazing Maurice

After almost a year of watching trash, finally, The Amazing Maurice was a relief. Like, literally! Animated movies are one of my favourite genres of all time, but suddenly, I couldn’t find any worth watching. Although I watched many, they failed to satiate my hunger for fun-filled highly detailed animated characters doing wonders.

Is it me or do many out there feel the same way? I don’t know actually, it’s just my personal opinion.

Anyway, I watched this a while back and thought the days are over— soon there will be more alike; alive and enchanting.

Meh!

It’s a perfect animation for families— adults and children. Mind-blowing and brilliant. Every move, every character, and every scene; everything is amazingly taken care of. The story is a gem to me, even though it’s too predictable and kind of centred on a subtle theme, the dramatisation is masterfully done. Maybe it’s not the adoption of the whole book, the original story, but suffice to deliver perfect entertainment for an enjoyable family time.

In the story, we have a pied piper, a gang of intelligent rats, the amazing ginger cat and our princess. But I didn’t find the princess character much amusing, she seemed to be a side hustle to me although she played an important role. Thematically, it’s a delusion that the rats are convinced to believe in to serve the cat’s purpose. Maybe the rats are not so intelligent in that sense, but yeah, they performed just fine.

Splendid I must say.

I don’t remember the last time I watched something so brilliantly done, especially with a few characters like them. Kudos to the artists and brains behind this.

One more important detail I noticed about the movie is the equal importance the characters are given irrespective of their roles and contributions. From spreading fear about the rat plague among the residents to taking the villain down and everything in between, every character played their parts in harmony. And when the villain was revealed, my gosh, I couldn’t believe it. From the beginning, our villain was portrayed as a very powerful, dark, and mean character. But it was a combination of characterS?

That was shocking.

Overall, it was a soul-binding experience watching the film. In my opinion, it deserves a higher rating of at least 8+, is that too much to wish for? Perhaps, it was underrated or gained little public attention at the time it was released to the public. End of November— too many Christmas films to easily get overlooked.

But I am glad I found it even after so many months of releasing it, and honestly, I enjoyed it. You will enjoy it too, so, if you haven’t heard of it yet, today might be the best time to give it a try.
