Child 44 is a crime thriller film based on the novel of the same name by Tom Robb Smith The film explores the dramatic events that take place in the Soviet Union during the rule of Joseph Stalin showing us a world full of danger and secrecy.

The story centers on Leo Demidov played by Pravotkin a loyal officer in the Soviet Internal Security Agency who finds himself on the hunt for a serial killer targeting children As Demidov digs deeper into the investigation he finds himself confronted by an oppressive state regime.

Set in communist Russia Leo Demidov a former Soviet army officer investigates a series of child murders Demidov faces a personal conflict and battle with the communist regime where crime cases are ignored by the authorities and kept secret Demidov is forced to work secretly to uncover the killer and prove the innocence of his wrongly accused friend.

Among the films highlights is the excellent performances of the actors with Pravotkin and Harris delivering strong moving and well received performances The dark atmosphere and tense dramatic scenes enhance the tension of the story and keep the audience engaged throughout the film.

However the film is very convoluted at times making it difficult to follow the events smoothly especially for someone who has not read the novel before Some characters also remain underexplored which reduces the impact of some relationships and conflicts in the story.

In short Child 44 is a dark crime thriller with excellent performances by its cast offering an exciting and suspensefilled journey into the world of crime and secrecy in the Soviet Union However it has the drawback of some complexity in the story and developments that are not adequately explored and The film succeeds in creating an exciting and suspenseful atmosphere, as it combines elements of excitement and suspense with a very attractive historical background.
