Reseña: Más corazón que odio // Review: The Searchers
It's been a while since I've seen a western. However, I have always tended to watch Clint Eastwood's films, so for a change I decided to see this one, in which John Wayne plays the lead role. Released in 1956. Its director was John Ford.
Synopsis: Ethan Edwards, a former combatant of the Civil War in the USA, has finally returned to the home of his family, who manages a farm. After a quiet encounter, he ends up wandering away from the farm, returning to find horror. His family has mostly been killed by Comanche Indians; after that he will have a personal mission, to rescue some kidnapped nieces, with the support of his adopted nephew Martin.
After the introduction and the premise is shown, the plot shows the 2 main characters going through several problems and stages to find the Comanche group. At the same time, we will have a period romance story that accompanies Martin.
Between the search scenes we will have battle scenes with good choreography and good photography. One of the ones I liked the most is a scene showing rows of horses following a trail in the background.
In the drama we see how Ethan sees how his decisions can lead to a mistake, while Martin tries to cope with the situation. It is interesting to see the journey of the lone hero that is Ethan.
As I already mentioned, the cinematography does a good job, except for some occasional mistakes. John Wayne plays an excellent role as the protagonist, he knows how to generate presence.
Recomendable.
I liked this western, although I don't consider it among my favorites, it has several iconic scenes and a story with a lot of subtext. Recommended.
