A little weekend watch ~ From Germany to France
As mentioned in a previous post Asterix and Obelix is out and no matter what you think of the French at least they have good actors.
I finally sat down and read this movie since well, no speak e frans see vou pleb.
As expected it is a fun mindless adventure with just enough interpersonal drama outweighed by humour. As life should be.
Asterix and Obelix does not try to use their platform to make bullshit statements on current society; it is refreshing to see classic humour being appreciated right through the movie.
Maybe something I missed from the comics is how they pull a flintstone by using modern ideas like instant messaging but using it in a world with carrier pigeons and chariots.
As many movies these days fail to have people suspend belief, there are no such issues in Asterix and Obelix and if anything I think they could have pushed the absurd even harder.
Obviously many can't read these days so for those who can we get to enjoy a fun movie that the upper-class won't.
The Gryphon
Perusing the series page after Asterix and having a hankering for something more fantastical I saw the Gryphon. Honestly the cover is absolute garbage but the name is what had me wondering and I had to just do a check that it was not Horror. If it was then that would be an immediate no since the cover and title explains the whole movie.
Fortunately, it is Sci-fi so with that I gave it a squint.
I did skim the fuck out of it though, but as it stands I doubt I missed anything I would have been in the mood for.
It is a German series so really any backstory, blabbering drama or seemingly personal growth moments are going to be a bit drawn out and dry...
So hopping and skipping my merry way through the show to all the key bits I have to say I am looking forward to Season 2.
It is a world eater-style story and I may or may not go back to find out a bit more about the Gryphon since the key thing that irked me, in the end, a bit was the extremely mundane showdown between the antagonist and the villain.
The Gryphon is supposed to be supremely powerful, albeit in recovery. so I will chalk it up to that, the world itself and the cross dimension aspect does seem very interesting so I hope they expand a lot more on how it all works and possibly The Gryphon will be more influencial in future seasons.
That is if they don't cancel it because well any good shows are bad shows if you go by the masses.
