Good day to all the beautiful people of the #MoviesAndTVShows Community. Last week I watched one of the series on everyone's lips the most as soon as it premiered on Netflix. It's Baby Reindeer. I don't know if you already saw it, so in this post, I'll give my opinion about it without spoilers.

Origin

  This story is based on real events, as it tells a little about the life of the comedian Richard Gadd, who in turn starred in this series of only 7 chapters. The title itself, didn't tell me much, but I saw so many recommendations on social networks that I decided to give it a chance, and I didn't watch it alone, but with my parents.

  They didn't like it. It left them with a bad taste because the ending was the viewer's choice. That is, it can be good, it can be bad, or simply neutral. So whatever ending you want to give it, I think it would be valid.

Origin

  I found it disturbing at the beginning when it introduced the character played by Jessica Gunning. From my point of view, she did great, she showed a level of obsession that reminded me of the iconic performance of Kathy Bates in that 90s classic known as Misery by novelist Stephen King.

  But the disturbing part of the story was not so much the obsession of this woman, but what she appeared and knowing that the protagonist around whom the whole story revolves encouraged her to continue doing with him what she had been doing.

  I mean, he knew that she was bad, that she needed help, and he also knew that he was bad and needed help, even knowing all that, he incentivized the woman to continue with her toxic behavior towards him, which made me reflect: who is sicker here? how can a person with his emotional and mental health fall so low?

  The series is extremely disturbing, because it tells a very dark story, based on real experiences. I think this is what makes it darker. My mom even went so far as to think: are we wrong for wanting to see how this will end, too?.

  I don't think so. I consider this series a Work of Art. Although I have not seen the other cinematographic works of the protagonist, I think this series is another level. A plot that develops the psychopathy of the human being in its maximum expression and graphically shows the self-destructive behavior that many people tend to experience.

  For me, it was incredible to watch it, it touches on very sensitive issues in society that, even with all the level of "empathy" that exists today, there is also still this rejection impregnated with deep judgments and prejudices towards those people who do not want to be helped and have this type of harmful behavior.

  This series marked me, it became important to me because it shows the worst in a person and made me remember that I am not alone in this world full of mental and emotional illnesses. But what impacted me the most was to know that it was the same protagonist who experienced everything shown in this series.

  I mean, I imagine that this film work could have worked in two ways, either more traumatic for Gadd having to "relive" all that bad experience or as I would like to believe, it worked more like therapy, where he was able to gain and achieve a level of acceptance and self-love that he had never had before.

  I thought everyone's performances were excellent, but of all those who played their roles, the one who stood out on the same level as the main characters was Nava Mau. She gave a spectacular performance and ever since I saw her in this series, I've been a fan.

  In closing, I just want to add that this series is as dark as any serial killer story. For me, it turned out to be psychological horror, mixed with a pretty high level of drama. Which already makes it one of the best series of 2024.

  As I said in the beginning, the series has only 7 chapters, 35 minutes each, so you could easily watch it all in one day. But believe me, there will be a before and after watching it (😂 lol 😂), at least for me, there was.

  And although I liked it a lot, I found it to be on another level and even as psychopathic as the poor life of the serial killer named Dahmer, it is a series that I will dare to recommend to you under your judgment of responsibility.

  As a fun fact I want to add that a few days ago I found out that the real woman who inspired the character of Martha Scott, sued the creator of the series for "bullying an older woman on TV to get fame and fortune " (Source of the Quote). And so it seems that now they switched roles and she is the one being bullied by getting so much fame for the TV story.

  The director of this film, together with its creator, showed in such a crude and real way the situation between the two that I consider it one of those series to watch only once and that's it. Taking into account all the general aspects mentioned above, I give it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 full 5 Little Golden Stars. And I recommend you to watch it as long as you are one of those who like this kind of disturbing story.
