I have never seen the 2 highest grossing animated films of all time

I am a fan of a wide variety of films including animated films. Before Disney and therefore Pixar started to have a political agenda I would really look forward to any of their animated films and if they can step away from their attempts at indoctrinating children I will probably start to watch them again. In the meantime I will not reward any organization that attempts to do this and if you look at the amount of money that Disney has been losing the past 5 years or so, it is pretty clear that I am not alone in this boycott.

That being said, some of the best movies that I have ever seen were animated and cost tons of money to make. One of my favorites, WALL-E cost more than $100 million to make and ended up making half a billion in worldwide sales before we even talk about merchandising revenue.

I was curious at what the biggest earners were in this realm and was a bit shocked that even though films and TV are a major part of my life, I have never seen the top 2 highest grossing animated films of all time.

The Lion King and I am talking about the 2019 one not the original fully animated feature in 2004, pulled down a whopping $1.6 BILLION in global sales. This feat has only been accomplished by a couple of movies in the history of cinema. Of movies of all types, The Lion King ranks 9th on the list being beaten out by the likes of Avatar, Titanic, and shockinglyFurious 7.

How it is that I managed to not be bothered to see this when it must have been everywhere is beyond me. Maybe I didn't realize that it was a remake and that it was just the re-releasing of the original animated film which I, like almost everyone else in the world, had already seen. I will be putting this on my Plex server immediately because honestly, I didn't even know it existed.

The 2nd highest grossing animated film of all time is one that I am unlikely to watch even though it did so well.

I enjoyed the original one a normal amount for an adult but once again, I was completely unaware that there even was a part 2. This film grossed just over $1.4 billion making it the 2nd biggest earner of animated films of all time and number 13 of all films of any type.

I don't have any children so I think I would have just ignored this in the cinemas. I don't mean to hate on kids but I cannot stand being in a cinema with children in it because they refuse to behave themselves. I am sure I was exactly like that as a child so I am not going to judge them but I don't want to be in that situation. I would rather wait and see films that are rated PG once they go to streaming and who knows, maybe I'll give Frozen 2 a shot.... Who am I kidding though, there are many other things I would rather see.

If you are curious the other films in the top 5 animated films of all time are like this
3: Super Mario Bros movie - saw it, liked it
4: Frozen: Saw it on DVD, thought it was fine and yeah "Let it go" gets stuck in my head every now and then as well.
5: Incredibles 2: Saw it, liked it a lot, would watch a follow up film if they made it

Have you seen all these films? Did you like them? Do you have any hidden gems from the animated feature realm that you would like to share with me?
