THE NEW INDIANA JONES - MY THOUGHTS

TO READ BETWEEN THE FRAMES

In the ending scene of the 1989 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the four of the survivors including Indi and his father rode gloriously along with the epic John William’s score towards the sunset.

Fast forward 30 years and a new Indi movie trailer has just been released saying that this is his “last adventure”, whilst in that scene in the Last Crusade, cinematically riding off the sunset is saying that "this is the last time", with another strong hint on the title that contains the word 'last'.

It seems like the current generation cannot read between the frames anymore because the senses have been pampered with the literal. Everything has to be spelled out and shown. The poetry is lost. Like how Spielberg lamented in The Fabelmans. But gah. "Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men."

Like how Bilbo Baggins said about his unnaturally long life caused by the Ring of Power, "..like butter spread over too much bread..". The life of the hero who has ended his Hero's Journey circle has been revived like Frankenstein to serve the film industry's creatively bankrupt and money-hungry capitalists. Just look at how Indi looking like in the new trailer.

Trapped in a vicious, Kafkaesque cycle of Kitsch and failed Pastiche. Toy-collector daddies are still stuck at Luke’s Lightsabers and TIE-Fighters. Also in Jules Leotard’s underwear-on-the-outside superheroes, as mature grown-ups, we should already be reading the connotation instead of the denotation and moving forward. Grow further as a civilization and god-willing, transcend into a higher existence. Not just of the spectacle but also of the substance. Ah well. I guess the fictional dystopian times for humanity are finally here. The photo attached is of times long gone.
