Plot

The movie tells the story of Thor "The God of Thunder", one of the sons of Odin, the King of Asgard, who is a mighty warrior who led the Asgardian army to multiple victories, the last one being against the Frost Giants of Jotunheim. Both kingdoms ended in a truce at the end, which unfortunately would be broken some time later, after the coronation day of the new King of Asgard was interrupted by some Frost Giants who infiltrated the kingdom in search of a powerful chest that the Asgardians took from him in times of war. Thor, ignoring the warnings of his father, goes to the kingdom of the giants to start a battle that is impossible for him to win.

Odin punishes his son by disinheriting him and taking away his power and then banishing him with his hammer, the Mjolnir, to Earth. There a doctor finds him, in New Mexico, where his hammer is also found, which is enchanted and only the one who deserves it will be able to lift it. As if that were not enough, an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. is guarding the artifact that fell from the sky, which will attract some enemies who will seek to kill Thor, who is now not a God, but a mere mortal. On the other hand, his brother, Loki, begins his plans to steal the throne of Asgard.

La película nos cuenta la historia de Thor “El Dios del Trueno”, uno de los hijos de Odín, el Rey de Asgard, el cual es un poderoso guerrero que lideró al ejército asgardiano, llevándolo a múltiples victorias, siendo esta última contra los Gigantes de Hielo de Jotunheim. Ambos reinos terminaron en una tregua al final, el cual por desgracia se rompería tiempo después, luego de que el día de la coronación del nuevo Rey de Asgard fuese interrumpido por unos Gigantes de Hielo que se infiltraron en el reino en busca de un poderoso cofre que los asgardianos le quitaron en tiempos de guerra. Thor, ignorando las advertencias de su padre, se dirige al reino de los gigantes a iniciar una batalla que le es imposible ganar.

Ante esto, Odín castiga a su hijo desheredándolo y quitándole su poder para luego desterrarlo con su martillo, el Mjolnir, a la tierra. If I'm honest, I'm not a big fan of Thor, although I saw most of his movies, I'm not really convinced by the work Chris Hemsworth did to play this character. But, one thing is clear and that is that this movie, compared to the others, I really like it. And the tone given to both the story and the characters I like a lot. There are also the special effects that, obviously, can not be missing and that also stand out very well, despite the time in which this film has been produced. The sound effects and the soundtrack are not far behind either, as they give it that touch that it needs to be a great cinematographic work.

The story, on the one hand, is interesting as it has the essence that is expected of the life and origin of these gods, starting with Thor as the protagonist, who from the beginning proves to be a proud, arrogant, confident and temperamental character who only wants war and fight all the time. And it is his attitude that led him to be banished, thus becoming a mortal and having to live with humans while he finds his true purpose, thus learning to be more humble and understanding with his actions. On the other hand, Odin, his father, played by the great Anthony Hopkins, proves to be that "Wise King" who makes decisions always thinking about the good of his kingdom, but this time the love for his son, Thor, will lead him to be detested by his other son, Loki, who shows a deep envy towards his brother and heir to the throne, which will unleash in him a hatred that will turn him into a great villain.

A battle between brothers, between good and evil, between gods and mortals is what we see in this movie. While the cast does a great job both as a whole and in particular, it is the very direction of the film that gives it that fantastic touch that I love to see from these Marvel Studios movies. The banishment of a God and the birth of a Hero, a plot that will catch anyone's attention, which is why this first installment of this famous superhero has received so much praise and positive reviews, even more so now, which is still seen as one of their best films.

Si les soy sincero, no soy muy fanático de Thor, si bien vi la mayoría de sus películas, no me termina de convencer el trabajo que realizó Chris Hemsworth para interpretar a este personaje. Pero, una cosa es clara y es que esta película, a comparación de las demás, me gusta mucho, la verdad. Y es que el tono que le dan tanto a la historia como a los personajes me gusta bastante. También están los efectos especiales que, obviamente, no pueden faltar y que también se destacan muy bien, a pesar de la época en la que esta cinta ha sido producida. Los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora tampoco quedan atrás ya que le dan ese toque que le hace falta para ser una gran obra cinematográfica.

La historia, por un lado, está interesante ya que tiene la esencia que se espera de la vida y origen de estos dioses, empezando por Thor como el protagonista, quien desde el principio demuestra ser un personaje orgulloso, arrogante, confiado y temperamental que solo desea la guerra y luchar todo el tiempo. Y es su actitud la que lo llevó a ser desterrado, convirtiéndose así en un mortal y teniendo que vivir con los humanos mientras encuentra su verdadero propósito, aprendiendo así a ser más humilde y comprensivo con sus actos. Por otro lado, Odín, su padre, interpretado por el gran Anthony Hopkins, demuestra ser ese "Rey Sabio" que toma las decisiones siempre pensando en el bien de su reino, pero en esta ocasión el amor por su hijo, Thor, lo llevará a ser detestado por su otro hijo, Loki, quien demuestra una profunda envidia hacia su hermano y heredero al trono, lo cual desatará en él un odio que lo convertirá en un gran villano.

Una batalla entre hermanos, entre el bien y el mal, entre dioses y mortales es lo que vemos en esta película. Si bien el elenco de actores realiza un grandioso trabajo tanto en conjunto como en particular, es la misma dirección que lleva la película la cual le da ese toque fantástico que me encanta ver de estas películas de Marvel Studios. El destierro de un Dios y el nacimiento de un Héroe, una trama que llamara la atención de cualquiera, lo cual hizo que esta primera entrega de este famoso superhéroe haya recibido tantos elogios y críticas positivas, aún más ahora, la cual sigue viéndose como una de sus mejores películas.

On the other hand, the quality of special effects and CGI in this film is spectacular, since they not only focus on a single character and a couple of scenes and expositions, but also add fantastic worlds beyond our comprehension, starting with the Kingdom of Asgard, which is fascinating at first sight. Then there are the various battle scenes, especially those featuring Thor with his unmistakable hammer being hurled with unparalleled power. While the design of the Frost Giants and their intervention in the story is somewhat remarkable, especially when Loki's origin is mentioned, it is the latter who takes all the villain's protagonism, being the one who manages everything behind the scenes in order to get the throne (and it is his very plan and end that leads him to meet one of the best made villains in the entire history of the world of cinema).

Finally, let's mention again my opinion about the main character, Thor, who I already said is not one of my favorite heroes, both this and any of the other versions that exist in movies and series. While it is true that after this movie the development that the character has during all the extensive Marvel Cinematic Universe proves to be one of the most remarkable of the great superhero franchise, this does not subtract my thoughts and opinions about that character. But, something is true about what we see in this film and it is the excellent way of telling the story and introducing this hero, something that detracted value and importance in later and final films in which he appears as a protagonist.

Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 as far as the superhero genre is concerned.

Por otro lado, la calidad de efectos especiales y CGI que tiene esta cinta es espectacular, ya que no solo se centran en un personaje nomás y un par de escenas y exposiciones, sino que también le agregan mundos fantásticos más allá de nuestra comprensión, empezando por el Reino de Asgard, el cual es fascinante a primera vista. También están las distintas escenas de batallas, sobre todo en las que aparece Thor con su inconfundible martillo siendo arrojado con un poder incomparable. Si bien el diseño de los Gigantes de Hielo y su intervención en la historia es algo destacable, sobre todo cuando se menciona el origen de Loki, es este último el cual se lleva todo el protagonismo de villano, al ser quien maneja todo detrás de bambalinas para así conseguir el trono (y es su mismo plan y final lo que lo lleva a toparse con uno de los villanos mejor hechos en toda la historia del mundo del cine).

Por último, mencionemos de nuevo mi opinión acerca del personaje principal, Thor, quien ya dije que no es de mis héroes favoritos, tanto esta como ninguna de las otras versiones que existen en películas y series. Si bien es cierto que luego de esta película el desarrollo que tiene el personaje durante todo el extenso Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel demuestra ser uno de los más destacables de la gran franquicia de superhéroes, esto no resta mis pensamientos y opiniones acerca de dicho personaje. Pero, algo sí es cierto en cuanto a lo que vemos en toda esta cinta y es la excelente forma de contarnos dicha historia y de presentarnos a este héroe, cosa que restó valor e importancia en películas posteriores y finales en las que este aparece como protagonista.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de superhéroes.
