Far from being the best horror movie of its style, this film has been quickly forgotten after its limited release in some theaters (practically not even Wikipedia shows how much money they have invested or have collected with this film). It is strange that an adaptation of a horror story of this style has been ignored in this way. If it weren't for the fact that the TV channels in my house only show movies with such bad ratings and from several decades ago, I would never have known that this movie existed. For the very few, scarce or almost non-existent viewers who saw this movie at the time and still remember it even now, we may have gotten the idea that it is some sort of horror mash-up with human-sized ant-like monsters, or as they call here "mound walkers" or something like that. Despite having many overlaps with other horror movies, a somewhat predictable plot and an ending that leaves you wondering if you liked it or not, I must admit that the few times I have seen this movie I was particularly entertained.

Para los poquísimos, escasos o casi inexistentes espectadores que vimos esta película en su momento y que aún ahora la seguimos recordando, puede que nos hayamos dado a la idea de que es una especie de mezcla de terror con monstruos tipo hormigas del tamaño de humanos, o como llaman aquí “caminantes de montículos” o algo así. A pesar de tener muchas coincidencias con otras películas de terror, una trama un tanto predecible y un final que te deja con dudas de si te gustó o no, debo admitir que las pocas veces que he visto esta película me entretuvo de manera particular.

That's not even counting the classic "divorce" that the protagonist is going through or recently went through. Now, what follows are the sounds and strange apparitions of unknown beings at night outside the house, something that would scare anyone. And if we add the mounds around the house, as if some sort of disturbing secret lies underneath that, then this place has all the makings of being burned and abandoned forever. What's strange to me is that it wasn't until the end of the movie that they decided to take a look at what was underneath the mound, only to realize the horror. Or maybe find out at the beginning what those beings or monsters are that lurk around the house every night. But well, you had to give it more than an hour long and not reveal everything from the beginning, apparently.

Now let's go with the behavior of the daughter, who from the beginning we realize how little IQ she has. Although if it is to enjoy a space free of typical city noises, there was no need to go to bed on a strange mound of earth where by chance you can also hear very unpleasant sounds, personally. Perhaps and those very sounds made me attract the girl to the place, as if those who emitted it knew what they were looking to catch. Then, seeing the "character development" that gave her that mound or whatever she saw out there is among the most relevant things to talk about this movie. Seeing how the girl starts to have strange behavior, besides always being muddy with dirt and always being on that mound and looking for trouble at school or at home with that straw doll all weird. Oh, and the monsters or "walkers" or whatever they're called that you can hardly see well in the few moments when they supposedly appear since, coincidentally, it's at night and it's so dark that you can't see anything but their simple silhouette.

No es un secreto para nadie que una película que empiece con el protagonista y su familia mudándose a una casa toda vieja y abandonada donde anteriormente hubo un caso de desaparición es de lo más cliché que se puede ver en un inicio de una película de terror (más que nada en películas de terror sobrenatural o de fantasmas). Eso sin contar el clásico “divorcio” en el cual está pasando o pasó hace poco el protagonista. Ahora, lo que sigue son los sonidos y las apariciones extrañas de seres desconocidos de noche afuera de la casa, cosa que asustaría a cualquiera. Y si sumamos los montículos que hay alrededor de la casa, como si de una especie de secreto perturbador se encontrase por debajo de eso, entonces este lugar tiene todo lo que se necesita para que sea quemado y abandonado para siempre. Lo que me extraña es que no fue sino hasta el final de la película que decidieron echarle un vistazo a lo que había debajo del montículo, para luego darse cuenta del horror. O tal vez descubrir al principio qué son esos seres o monstruos que acechan todas las noches alrededor de la casa. Pero bueno, había que darle más de una hora de duración y no revelar todo desde el principio, al parecer.

Ahora vamos con la conducta de la hija, quien desde el principio nos damos cuenta del poco coeficiente intelectual que tiene. Aunque si es para disfrutar de un espacio libre de ruidos típicos de la ciudad, no hacía falta irse a acostarse sobre un extraño montículo de tierra donde por casualidad también se escuchan sonidos muy poco agradables, en lo personal. Tal vez y esos mismos sonidos hicieron que atrajera a la chica al lugar, como si los que lo emitieran supieran qué estaban buscando atrapar. Luego, ver el “desarrollo de personaje” que le dió ese montículo o lo que sea que haya visto por ahí es de las cosas más relevantes que se puede hablar de esta película. Ver cómo la chica empieza a tener una extraña conducta, además de estar siempre embarrada de tierra y estar siempre en ese montículo y buscando problemas en la escuela o en su casa con ese muñeco de paja todo extraño. Ah, y los monstruos o “caminantes” o como se llamen que casi ni se pueden ver bien en los escasos momentos en los que supuestamente aparecen ya que, casualmente es de noche y está tan oscuro que no se puede ver nada más que su simple silueta.

The visual effects that the film has are not of the most remarkable, appearing more for the practical and aesthetic, we can see a bit dark tone with sometimes fixed shots and other times in little movement. The sound effects are one of those works in which stand out more for the importance it has to turn the horror and mystery in the form of strange and disturbing sounds at certain times of the film. Lastly, the soundtrack which is not badly done, giving rather that drama and suspense to the stronger and more interesting moments. Again, the ending may be what left me wondering if what I saw was a masterpiece or something much less than that, but otherwise it's a horror story that can be seen and felt in a certain way.

Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 as far as the horror/drama genre is concerned.

También está el final, el cual desemboca una incertidumbre difícil de ignorar, además de dejarte con la emoción hasta el cielo al ver cómo pasó todo de ser un extraño caso de criaturas y sonidos misteriosos en un montículo y una hija toda extraña a ser un enfrentamiento directo contra criaturas salidas del mismo infierno. El escenario final con el que cierra la película es algo que, para mí, hay que tomarlo y repetirlo otra vez para ver lo bien que lo hicieron… bueno, al menos con el final. Los efectos visuales que tiene la película no son de lo más destacable, aparentando más por lo práctico y lo estético, podemos ver un tono un poco oscuro con planos a veces fijos y otras veces en poco movimiento. Los efectos de sonido son unos de esos trabajos en los que sobresalen más por la importancia que tiene al convertir el horror y el misterio en forma de sonidos extraños e inquietantes en ciertos momentos de la película. Por último, la banda sonora que no está mal hecha, dándole más bien ese drama y suspenso a los momentos más fuertes y más interesantes. De nuevo, el final puede que sea de lo que más me haya dejado pensando en si lo que vi es una obra maestra o es algo muchísimo menos que eso, pero de resto es una historia de terror que se puede ver y sentir de cierta forma.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género del terror y el drama.
