Plot

The movie is about a civil war serviceman who, taking refuge in a cave, comes across a sort of portal that teleports him to "Mars" where he apparently possesses superhuman strength (this is due to the low gravity the planet has) while encountering intelligent beings with humanoid, green bodies. Aparte de esto, la historia tan genérica que posee, siendo esta la de un viajero del espacio que conoce una civilización de extraterrestres y se enfrenta en una guerra para conseguir la paz.

Si, esta misma historia seguramente la habrás escuchado o visto en otras películas del género de la ciencia ficción o de la fantasía. En cambio, esta tiene un punto a favor, al intentar mostrarnos una sociedad inteligente que se encuentra en medio de una guerra por el dominio de la tecnología que poseen. La forma de tratar, las clases de marcianas que hay, los visitantes y los demás personajes que conocemos en esta película tienen un detalle particularmente interesante.

Sin embargo, lo que más se destaca o llama la atención de esta película son, sin duda los efectos especiales y el CGI que tiene, el cual al día de hoy puede dar mucho de qué hablar al tener una calidad mejor a la de algunas películas estrenadas recientemente con un presupuesto similar. Pero, aún por mucho que se destaque en efectos especiales y de sonido, esta película sigue siendo uno de los mayores fracasos de Disney, lo cual hizo que muchos se olvidaran de ella.

Yes, you have probably heard or seen this same story in other movies of the science fiction or fantasy genre. Instead, this one has a point in favor, trying to show us an intelligent society that is in the middle of a war for the dominance of the technology they possess. The manner of treatment, the kinds of Martians there are, the visitors and the other characters we meet in this film have a particularly interesting detail.

However, what stands out the most or calls the attention of this film are, without a doubt, the special effects and CGI that it has, which today can give much to talk about by having a better quality than some recently released films with a similar budget. But, even though it stands out in special effects and sound, this movie is still one of Disney's biggest failures, which made many people forget about it.

Al recordar esta película y lo mucho que disfruté de verla en su momento, me hizo darme cuenta de lo valioso que es la calidad de producción que una obra debe de tener. Si bien es necesario un nivel de efectos especiales y un CGI aceptable para una cinta de este tipo, tampoco hay que enfrascarse únicamente en eso. Si eres de los que les gusta ver películas con alta calidad y nivel de producción, entonces seguramente ignoras otras cosas que son igual de importantes.

Y si, estoy hablando de la calidad que tiene una película en cuanto a historia, si es original e interesante, personajes, si tienes un nivel de desarrollo aceptable y una trama que sea única y que atrapé por completo al espectador. Si bien es complicado ahora ser 100% original, existe una enorme variedad de obras, películas y series muy similares a esta que estamos hablando hoy.

Y no, no digo que sea una mala película ya que aún al día de hoy la puedo ver y la disfrutaré bastante, como siempre. Si bien la historia atrapa de una buena manera, se puede ver claramente que este falla en muchos aspectos, como en el desarrollo de los personajes, los diálogos o incluso el sentido narrativo de la historia. Se nota que se enfocaron más en el nivel de calidad en cuanto a efectos especiales que en lo demás. Al final, está decisión les causó una enorme pérdida que a la fecha se sigue cometiendo mucho en otras películas.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7/10 en lo que respecta al género de la ciencia ficción y la aventura.

Thinking back on this film and how much I enjoyed watching it at the time, it made me realize how valuable the production quality is that a work should have. While a decent level of special effects and CGI is necessary for a film of this type, you don't have to get caught up in that alone. If you are one of those who like to see movies with high quality and production level, then you probably ignore other things that are just as important.

And yes, I am talking about the quality of a film in terms of story, if it is original and interesting, characters, if you have an acceptable level of development and a plot that is unique and completely grips the viewer. While it is complicated now to be 100% original, there is a huge variety of works, films and series very similar to this one we are talking about today.

And no, I'm not saying it's a bad movie since I can still watch it today and I will enjoy it as always. While the story catches in a good way, you can clearly see that this one fails in many aspects, such as in the development of the characters, the dialogues or even the narrative sense of the story. You can tell that they focused more on the quality level in terms of special effects than anything else. In the end, this decision caused them a huge loss that to this day is still being made a lot in other movies.

Personally, I give it a rating of 7/10 as far as the sci-fi/adventure genre is concerned.
