Posiblemente, las obras escritas por Stephen King, sean de las más difíciles de recrear tanto en la pequeña como gran pantalla; esto lo digo porque siempre he visto mayormente descontento por parte de fans y del mismo escritor a varias producciones estrenadas y personalmente encuentro desmotivado al momento de querer ver algún film basado en dichas obras, aunque en los últimos tiempos he usado la práctica del disminuir mis expectativas esperando disfrutar de una historia de monstruos y de quienes deben enfrentarlos.

El encargado tanto de la dirección y escritura del guion fue Gary Dauberman, quien alcanzó la fama al co escribir guiones para "It (2017) y "It: Chapter Two" (2019), aunque también escribió los tres filmes del spin-off de "The Conjuring", me refiero a "Annabelle". Para este film, Dauberman cumpliría por segunda ocasión de su carrera el rol de director; puedo decir que su trabajo en ciertas escenas de tensión y terror son mejores que en su anterior y primer film como director; hay escenas divertidas con buenas secuencias de terror y acción; al igual que buenas escenografías lo cual con la correcta iluminación y cierto uso de colores, da la sensación de ver un film realizado entre los 70’ y 80’.

El guion es el punto débil del film; a pesar de estar presentes características impuestas por King en sus obras, por ejemplo lo referente a la oscuridad que cubre a los lugares en donde se desarrollan sus historias, creo que el gran fallo está en la nula relevancia de sus personajes; no hay un adecuado desarrollo y si una breve presentación de los motivos y pasados de cada uno mientras entran en escena; eso hace que no exista una completa conexión con varios de sus protagonistas principales sean héroes o villanos y le resta el dramatismo que pudo hacer mejor el relato de esta historia.

Muchos de los actores son víctimas de lo que ofrece el guion, el poco desarrollo de los personajes evita que exista la química entre ellos y que podamos ver un mejor film, pero a pesar de eso, si hubo dos actuaciones o dos personajes de los cuales pude disfrutar de su tiempo en escena, ellos son Bill Camp y Jordan Preston Carter quienes interpretaron a "Matthew Burke" y "Mark Petrie"; ambos personajes en mi opinión tienen cierto parecido, ya que ambos son valientes y están dispuestos a todo por hacer lo correcto, en eso ambos actores saben representar un mismo sentido por la justicia, pero con una diferencia de actitud. Lamento que el guion no fuera el adecuado para desarrollar las historias de "Ben" y "Susan", interpretados por Lewis Pullman y Makenzie Leigh. Seguramente su historia de amor debió proveer el necesario dramatismo al film, pero su actuación víctima de las circunstancias, no fue para nada buena.

Puedo decir que me sorprendió el descontento que creó el estreno de este film basado en 'Salem's Lot y es que a pesar de tener fallos, en mi opinión es una versión muy entretenida; una de las virtudes que encontré fue el correcto trabajo de Gary Dauberman en la dirección siendo esta su segunda vez detrás de las cámaras; me gusta la importancia que se le da a todo lo referente al Vampirismo, la transformación, la crueldad, el asecho, el humor y por supuesto sus debilidades; eso me pareció genial así como el homenaje a producciones antiguas de monstruos y criaturas de la noche. Este film para muchos es otra errada adaptación a una obra de Stephen King, creo que al ser tan suave y corta, se priva de dar un salto de calidad, pero siendo completamente sincero, es mejor que muchos films de terror estrenados en este año.
