Influencia de películas de acción de los 80' y 90' o del Western; cuál sea el género que influyó a la reconocida de manera unánime, nueva excelente producción de Netflix, demuestra que cuando se hace un buen trabajo, se obtiene resultados que posiblemente superan las originales expectativas; comienzo está reseña haciendo hincapié en esto porque cuando una productora, distribuidora o algún servicio de streaming, no promociona efectivamente su producto, resulta que es el espectador quien decide dar valor a una película (en este caso) y motive a muchos otros a presenciar y resaltar una producción de buena calidad.

"Rebel Ridge", thriller criminal, con elementos de acción y que en mi opinión es un moderno western, es el último e inesperado éxito en Netflix, está película fue estrenada a comienzos del mes de septiembre y narra la historia de "Terry Richmond", un hombre misterioso que se dirige al pueblo de Shelby Springs en dónde debe cancelar la fianza de su primo que injustamente fue apresado por la policía local y los cuales abordan y detienen a Terry confiscando el dinero que él obtuvo de manera legal; ese hecho desencadenará situaciones que se pudieron evitar, pero cuando quienes decidieron proteger usan ley para sus beneficios, es entonces donde un hombre hará todo lo posible para hacer justicia.

El film fue dirigido y escrito por Jeremy Saulnier, quien obtuvo reconocimiento por el excelente film de terror "Green Room" (2015); en esta oportunidad desarrolla una historia con muchos clichés de películas de acción de los 80' y 90', siendo esa la principal atracción para promocionar el film, aunque el punto fuerte está en el relato de todos los sucesos que unen a una serie de buenos personajes y a su vez da validez a lo que es un thriller criminal; los diálogos escritos por Saulnier son muy buenos, es una batalla de palabras en imponer control y poder, es un primer paso para lo que es inevitable y justamente es eso lo que valoro del film porque primeramente hay un buen desarrollo de la historia lo cual nos prepara para el enfrentamiento final.

La necesidad de usar un lugar alejado de grandes edificaciones, pero que a su vez tenga aspecto de no ser un lugar completamente rural, es muy importante para la historia; Saulnier nos enseña desde el primer momento que no importa si un sitio pueda verse pacífico, de un modo u otro podrá aparecer problemas y eso es lo que ofrece desde la escena que da inicio a esta historia; cabe destacar que los encuentros que van sucediendo entre estos personajes se crea una gran tensión lo cual pareciera que todo puede elevar el enfrentamiento en cualquier momento y es un acierto del director que mantiene las expectativas por un largo momento; cabe destacar que las escenas de acción podrán sentirse repetitivas, pero también puedo decir que son entretenidas, con excelentes coreografías y perfectas para la historia.

The film was directed and written by Jeremy Saulnier, who got recognition for the excellent horror film "Green Room" (2015); in this opportunity he develops a story with many clichés of action movies of the 80' and 90', being that the main attraction to promote the film, although the strong point is in the story of all the events that unite a series of good characters and in turn gives validity to what is a crime thriller; the dialogues written by Saulnier are very good, it is a battle of words in imposing control and power, it is a first step for what is inevitable and that is exactly what I value of the film because first there is a good development of the story which prepares us for the final confrontation.

The need to use a place far away from big buildings, but at the same time it has the aspect of not being a completely rural place, is very important for the story; Saulnier teaches us from the first moment that no matter if a place may look peaceful, in one way or another problems may appear and that is what he offers from the scene that begins this story; It should be noted that the encounters that are happening between these characters creates a great tension which seems that everything can raise the confrontation at any time and it is a success of the director that keeps the expectations for a long time; it should be noted that the action scenes may feel repetitive, but I can also say that they are entertaining, with excellent choreography and perfect for the story.

Las actuaciones son buenas y de las características que más me sorprendió del film; originalmente el personaje de "Terry Richmond" debió interpretarlo John Boyega, pero por inexplicables situaciones, dejó el proyecto lo cual llevó a que fuera suplantado por Aaron Pierre, lo cual me pareció un acertado casting, su actuación es más que correcta, se nota que su personaje es leal, sabe de las dificultades del sistema, pero eso no evita a presionar para hacer lo correcto y eso es el primer desencadenante de la historia, la cual después es una exigencia para ser justicia; otra gran actuación es por parte de Don Johnson como "Chief Sandy Burnne", un buen antagonista, un hombre de la ley, su propia ley, lo cual le hace transitar un camino errado y por eso cada vez es más difícil regresar a lo correcto o que ya no quiere hacerlo; los diálogos entre estos dos protagonistas son de lo mejor del film.

The performances are good and one of the features that surprised me the most about the film; originally the character of "Terry Richmond" should have been played by John Boyega, but due to inexplicable situations, he left the project which led him to be replaced by Aaron Pierre, which I thought was a good casting, his performance is more than correct, you can tell that his character is loyal, he knows the difficulties of the system, but that does not prevent him from pushing to do the right thing and that is the first trigger of the story, which later is a demand to be justice; another great performance is by Don Johnson as "Chief Sandy Burnne", a good antagonist, a man of the law, his own law, which makes him walk a wrong path and that is why it is increasingly difficult to return to what is right or he no longer wants to do it; the dialogues between these two protagonists are among the best of the film.

Sé que habrá personas que se sientan decepcionadas por el hecho que Rebel Ridge no es la típica película de acción, con balaceras, persecuciones, explosiones y demás; este es un buen thriller criminal, con buenas escenas de acción, pero en mi opinión es perfecta para el término de "western moderno", tiene el cliché de la llegada de un hombre misterioso a un lugar alejado de todo y en dónde el sheriff o todo un cuerpo policial controla todo y un acto desleal abrirá un enfrentamiento que se va cocinando lento hasta el momento del inevitable enfrentamiento final; lo que acabo de describir no lo considero spoiler, sino una descripción de lo que es este film que va acompañado de muchas otras características, notables todas y por eso muchas personas la consideran de lo mejor que ha estrenado Netflix en este año.
