It's What's Inside - Movie Review [ES - EN]

En este Hivelloween24' habrá mucha influencia de films originales de servicios de streaming; la vez pasada reseñé una producción original de MAX y ahora debo hacerla con una película de Netflix, estrenada originalmente en el Sundance Film Festival de este mismo año y la cual usa ciencia ficción, comedia y tintes de terror, para el relato de una interesante historia.

In this Hivelloween24' there will be a lot of influence of original films from streaming services; last time I reviewed a MAX original production and now I must do it with a Netflix film, originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this same year and which uses science fiction, comedy and tinges of horror, for the telling of an interesting story.

"It's What's Inside" film dirigido y escrito por Greg Jardin relata la historia de seis amigos que años después de graduarse en la universidad, deciden reunirse para rememorar sus días de fiesta y amistad justamente antes de la boda de uno de ellos, pero en el transcurso de la noche, un miembro faltante del grupo de manera inesperada hace presencia junto a un maletín que adentro lleva un artefacto que dará inicio a un juego que cambiará a todos.

"It's What's Inside" directed and written by Greg Jardin tells the story of six friends who, years after graduating from college, decide to get together to reminisce about their days of partying and friendship just before the wedding of one of them, but during the course of the evening, a missing member of the group unexpectedly shows up with a briefcase containing an artifact that will start a game that will change them all.

Primero que nada hay que decir que este film es más de ciencia ficción y comedia que de terror, aunque si es cierto que ciertas escenas o sucesos pueden tener esa inclinación al terror, pero creo que Jardin, como director y guionista, tomó la decisión adecuada al mantener la tensión y darle relevancia a la comedia y tragedia de estos amigos; existe un segundo aspecto y lo cual estoy de acuerdo con muchas opiniones leídas en redes sociales y es que es preferible no relevar nada que pueda arruinar la historia del este film en dónde existe un aspecto importante y es que funciona bien al momento de verla sin ninguna expectativa y sin haber visto el trailer, esto es relevante porque con poco o nulo conocimiento de la historia, creo que se puede disfrutar aún más.

Los anteriores trabajos de Jardin en la dirección se remontan a videos musicales y episodios de series de TV; eso significa que este es su primera vez dirigiendo en un largometraje y es un buen trabajo; este es producción pequeña y eso lo digo porque se nota el poco presupuesto, pero eso no evita que muchas de las escenas se note el buen trabajo de dirección y edición que también lo realizó él mismo. Se nota cierta influencia en los trabajos de Edgar Wright y hasta no solo en la dirección, sino en el relato de la historia, en especial en el humor y en cómo están escritos los personajes, justamente es uno de los puntos positivos en esta película.

First of all it must be said that this film is more science fiction and comedy than horror, although it is true that certain scenes or events may have that inclination to terror, but I think that Jardin, as director and screenwriter, made the right decision to maintain the tension and give relevance to the comedy and tragedy of these friends; there is a second aspect and which I agree with many opinions read in social networks and is that it is preferable not to relieve anything that can ruin the story of this film where there is an important aspect and is that it works well at the time of seeing it without any expectations and without having seen the trailer, this is relevant because with little or no knowledge of the story, I think you can enjoy it even more.

The previous works of Jardin in directing go back to music videos and TV series episodes; that means that this is his first time directing in a feature film and it is a good job; this is a small production and I say that because the low budget is noticeable, but that does not prevent many of the scenes to notice the good work of directing and editing that he also did himself. You can notice a certain influence in the work of Edgar Wright**_ and even not only in the direction, but in the telling of the story, especially in the humor and how the characters are written, which is precisely one of the positive points in this film.

Las actuaciones son buenas, aunque cuando hay tantos protagonistas es extraño que todos sean relevantes, pero creo que se hace el trabajo necesario para que cada personaje tenga su momento de brillar, pero repito, las actuaciones son buenas, convincentes y eso hace que el relato de la historia funcione en la mayoría de los personajes, digo en la mayoría porque hay algunos comienzan bien, pero terminan regular; puedo decir que son víctimas del guion, pero de igual manera se pudo hacer mejores escenas manteniendo la química en otras escenas del film.

The performances are good, although when there are so many protagonists it is strange that all are relevant, but I think the necessary work is done so that each character has their moment to shine, but I repeat, the performances are good, convincing and that makes the narrative of the story works in most of the characters, I say most because there are some who start well, but end up regular; I can say that they are victims of the script, but still could have done better scenes while maintaining the chemistry in other scenes of the film.

Posiblemente, esta película no debería entrar en el Hivelloween de este año, pero creo que el terror está presente así sea en una pequeña participación, pero necesaria para dar más relevancia a este historia de amigos que con motivos diferentes podrán crean una noche nada placentera para ninguno y que eso creara fisuras no solo en sus amistades, sino en sus vidas; justamente esto me pareció correcto porque no solo es una demostración de terror, sino también de cierta realidad en el comportamiento de algunas personas y lo cual le da más relevancia tanto a la ciencia ficción como a la comedia; ahora creo que con lo antes dicho, en mi opinión, el film "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies" (2022) se hace un mejor trabajo que lo visto en It's What's Inside, pero eso no significa que en esta película se haga un mal trabajo, es todo lo contrario, ya que en su poca originalidad o en su mucha influencia a otras producciones, creo que se hace un trabajo correcto en varios ámbitos en los cuales hacen que este film sea entretenido.

Possibly, this film should not enter this year's Hivelloween, but I think that horror is present even in a small participation, but necessary to give more relevance to this story of friends that with different motives can create a night not at all pleasant for anyone and that will create fissures not only in their friendships, but in their lives; just this seemed right to me because it is not only a demonstration of terror, but also of certain reality in the behavior of some people and which gives more relevance to both science fiction and comedy; now I think that with the above mentioned, in my opinion, the film "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies" (2022) does a better job than what was seen in It's What's Inside, but that does not mean that this film does a bad job, it is the opposite, since in its little originality or in its much influence to other productions, I think it does a correct job in several areas in which make this film entertaining.
