For some time I have had a not very positive opinion about Live-Action manga and anime; I have seen several of these productions which I have not enjoyed completely and I think that in Japan they try very hard to faithfully recreate the original material and often that is impossible, being that what I consider that affects a movie or TV series; now there are other productions where without stopping practicing the above, I think that in a surprising way they make them work, which creates a production worthy of the story which is based.

Before watching this movie I had not read a single episode of the manga, nor had I seen an episode of the original anime, but the good reviews from people who are fans of the original material pushed me to watch this film which is directed by Yūichi Satō, who does an excellent job; the action sequences are very good, especially the one that starts the film, which in my opinion is the best because it has very good fight scenes, chase and comedy, characteristic elements of this story; the camera work to follow the agile of its protagonist is excellent, that makes highlight the action and comedy scenes, makes it entertaining and very dynamic.

That the script has the participation of Tsukasa Hôjô is something nice and right, since he is the creator of the manga of "City Hunter"; he together with Tatsuro Mishima, screenwriter of other Netflix original productions; they know how to use this story to be an origin story about this stage of the characters, as well as one more episode of both the manga or the anime; the important thing about the script lies in that the essence of the story in reference to comedy and action is maintained in great percentage, let's remember that this film is based on a manga from the 80' so the "humor" that worked at that time, now can be considered aggressive and annoying and I think that in this film, both Hôjô and Mishima, found a perfect balance for the protagonist and his witticisms in this story.

The performance of Ryohei Suzuki as "Ryo Saeba" is excellent, it is one of the positive points of the film; he is funny, comical and that very important for the character, that does not mean that he is overacted because the reality is that he has a lot of charisma and good attitude, that works very well not only in the comic scenes, but in the action scenes; Suzuki is a very expressive actor, something that is observed in the same character both in the manga and the anime, that change of facial expression depending on the moment in which the character is is relevant, because it makes the story enjoyable.

Very strangely when watching a live-action of a manga or anime, I prefer to see the original material first to have a full knowledge, but this time the opposite happened and watching some episodes of the anime released in the late 80's, made me understand and appreciate much more the work that was done in this film by all involved and although this film is not perfect for not having a full development of the counterpart of the main characters, everything about Ryo as the main character and his great attraction to women, his need to expose himself and even his little or no humility is what I personally liked, it maintains the essence (in this case the anime) of the anime, everything about Ryo as the main character and his great attraction to women, his need to expose himself and even his little or no humility is what I personally liked, it keeps the essence (in this case) of the anime without making it look exaggerated at all; I hope that in the near future this movie will have a sequel, I think there is a lot of material for a successful franchise (in its live-action version) that respects and pays a great tribute to its source material; I think City Hunter, still has many cases to solve.

I'm already watching the anime and I'm having a great time.

When I was a kid they didn't broadcast this kind of anime, I think Cowboy Beboop and Cobra were the only ones that had a protagonist of this style.

At the moment I'm watching the first anime of the four that I've seen that exist.

Jackie Chan starred in a version of City Hunter in the 80', which I haven't seen, but when I finish watching several episodes of the anime, I'll definitely watch it.

I'm convinced it will be funnier and with better action scenes than the Netflix version, which is very good.

I laughed a lot too.
