Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Actualmente en el mundo del cine, existe el debate sobre la necesidad de seguir explotando una franquicia o querer ver películas nuevas, esto es debido a que las nuevas han fracasado en la taquilla y las que son parte de franquicias han obtenido éxito; personalmente creo que una marca es importante cuando es sinónimo de éxito, lo cual ciertamente está acompañada de nostalgia, pero también hay que ese factor está ligado a la pregunta “¿Es necesario otra película más?” Y sin importar si la respuesta es afirmativa o no, lo relevante es que exista alguien o algo que del presupuesto por ejemplo de 150 millones de dólares para realizar un film sin importar que tan necesario es y creo que ese es el caso de la película a la que hago reseña en esta publicación.

Currently in the world of movies, there is a debate about the need to continue exploiting a franchise or want to see new films, this is because the new ones have failed at the box office and those that are part of franchises have achieved success; personally I think a brand is important when it is synonymous with success, which certainly is accompanied by nostalgia, but there is also that this factor is linked to the question "Is it necessary another film?"And regardless of whether the answer is yes or no, what is relevant is that there is someone or something that has the budget, for example, of 150 million dollars to make a film no matter how necessary it is, and I think that is the case of the film I am reviewing in this publication.

“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”, película original de Netflix, cuarta película dentro de la franquicia y relata una nueva aventura del detective de Detroit en la ciudad llena de lujos y estrellas del cine, me refiero a Beverly Hills; en esta oportunidad el regreso de Axel es debido a un motivo muy personal, ya que tanto un gran y viejo amigo como es “Billy Rosewood”, junto a la hija de Axel, la abogada defensora, “Jane Saunders”, están involucrados en un caso en donde un policía encubierto fue asesinado y justamente a quien se le acusó de asesinarlo es el cliente de Jane y en su búsqueda de la verdad despertarán el interés de peligrosas personas y el único que pueda imponerse entre esos criminales es el mismo Axel Foley.

Estoy muy seguro que tanto la primera como la segunda película dentro de la franquicia de “Beverly Hills Cop”, deben ser las que más he visto en mi vida, son películas con excelente acción, buenos personajes, buenos diálogos, excelente comedia, en fin, son películas muy entretenida y justamente varias de esas características no aparecen en el tercer film estrenado en los 90’, la cual creo que su mayor problema es que parece desarrollarse en Beverly Hills, pero en esta nueva e inesperada oportunidad, se decidió traer de vuelta todo lo que captó la atención en sus dos primeras películas, me refiero a la ciudad, los lujos, acción y por supuesto, los clásicos protagonistas.

Lamentable, todo nostalgia que se usó o se intentó usar no fue suficiente para crear una buena película, creo que había tanta necesidad de recrear lo ya hecho que se obvió lo que considero importante y es el de desarrollar una nueva historia; primeramente pienso que el tema personal como motivo principal está muy ligado a lo que esta franquicia porque es lo que hace que su protagonista salga de una zona de confort y trata de imponer en un lugar diferente, esos son factores que no tengo ningún inconveniente, es la base de cada film, pero el asunto está en como se desarrolla la historia y como sucede en otras franquicias, no todo depende del protagonista, sino de todo lo que debe enfrentar, como por ejemplo los villanos o en este caso los lazos familiares.

I am very sure that the first and the second film in the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise, must be the ones I have seen the most in my life, they are movies with excellent action, good characters, good dialogue, excellent comedy, in short, they are very entertaining movies and just several of these features do not appear in the third film released in the 90', which I think its biggest problem is that it seems to take place in Beverly Hills, but in this new and unexpected opportunity, it was decided to bring back everything that captured the attention in his first two films, I mean the city, the luxuries, action and of course, the classic protagonists.

Unfortunately, all the nostalgia that was used or tried to be used was not enough to create a good movie, I think there was so much need to recreate what was already done that what I consider important and that is to develop a new story; first of all I think that the personal theme as the main motive is closely linked to what this franchise because it is what makes its protagonist to leave a comfort zone and try to impose in a different place, those are factors that I have no objection, it is the basis of each film, but the issue is in how the story develops and as it happens in other franchises, not everything depends on the protagonist, but everything he must face, such as villains or in this case the family ties.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F tuvo un costo de 150 millones de dólares y creo que grabar secuencias de acción tanto en Detroit como en las calles de Beverly Hills, imagino que tiene su costo, así como el uso del CGI en una escena en específico, ahora me hubiera gustado que cada una de esas escenas tuvieran la necesaria emoción para crear cierto impacto en quien ve el film y lamentablemente eso no sucede, en mi opinión son repetitivas y aburridas y ese creo que es el problema del uso de la nostalgia, eso lleva a recrear escenas y diálogos ya visto y no tomar el riesgo de hacer algo nuevo o hasta hacerlas mejor, posiblemente ese es el gran problema y es que está película se pudo usar mejor el gran presupuesto que tuvo.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F had a cost of 150 million $ and I think that filming action sequences both in Detroit and in the streets of Beverly Hills, I imagine that has its cost, as well as the use of CGI in a specific scene, now I would have liked that each of those scenes had the necessary emotion to create some impact on who sees the film and unfortunately that does not happen, in my opinion they are repetitive and boring and that I think is the problem of the use of nostalgia, that leads to recreate scenes and dialogues already seen and not take the risk of doing something new or even make them better, possibly that is the big problem and that is that this film could have been used better the big budget it had.

Sé que el contar con Eddie Murphy y con Judge Reinhold y John Ashton, quienes interpretan a “Billy Rosewood” y “John Taggart”, me pareció excelente, justamente esos dos personajes, detectives del departamento de policías de Beverly Hills, son mis personajes favoritos, pero el guion es tan malo que no se aprovecha ni un minuto de esos personajes, me refiero a recrear algo nuevo, divertido y es que esta película es una demostración del mal uso de la nostalgia y eso la convierte en una decepción, sin importar que tan poca expectativa tenía antes de verla. Lamento nombrar a este cuarto film de la franquicia liderada por el personaje de Axel Foley como la peor película que he visto en este año, es completamente aburrida y larga, no entiendo como hay dos horas de metraje y tan poco desarrollo de los personajes, en especial de los villanos y del caso en sí; es un desastre de narrativa, con un mal casting, con malos y nada cómicos diálogos y escenas de acción simples, no hay nada especial en este film, una perdida de dinero y tiempo.

I regret to name this fourth film of the franchise led by Axel Foley's character as the worst film I have seen this year, it is completely boring and long, I do not understand how there are two hours of footage and so little development of the characters, especially the villains and the case itself; it is a disaster of narrative, with a bad casting, with bad and not funny dialogues and simple action scenes, there is nothing special in this film, a waste of money and time.
