It is increasingly recurrent that horror productions have a certain need to create a character that has a strong impact and is even iconic; this is nothing new because that is exactly what this genre lives on, characters that are unforgettable and that drive franchises turning an idea into a big company that creates numerous repetitive sequels, but that make their fans happy (or not); is in need in recent years, it's what doesn't make movies about curses, strange and united brothers, aberrations, evil toys and now a little girl who loves ballet and who is possibly not as innocent as she seems.
Es cada vez más recurrente que producciones de terror tengan cierta necesidad de crear a un personaje que tenga un fuerte impacto y que hasta sea icónico; esto no es nada nuevo porque justamente este género vive de eso, de personajes que sean inolvidables y que impulsen franquicias convirtiendo una idea en una gran empresa que cree numerosas secuelas repetitivas, pero que hagan felices (o no) a sus fans; está en necesidad en los últimos años, es lo que no hace ver películas sobre maldiciones, extraños y unidos hermanos, aberraciones, juguetes malignos y ahora a una niña que le encanta el ballet y que posiblemente no sea tan inocente como parece.

I'm not going to lie when I say that this was one of the films I most wanted to see in the second quarter of the year; the trailer (which reveals much of the story) made it look entertaining and that's exactly what I wanted to see although with low expectations because despite receiving positive opinions, I think we are in a time where we tend to exaggerate not to say deceive and I must say that precisely those expectations made me enjoy certain moments of the film and made me be critical of others where I did not feel convinced and I felt some disappointment not to witness scenes of terror despite having several characters, I mean the suspense where the characters do not know what happens until you reach an inevitable death; I think that's exactly what the couple of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have an extensive and current career in the horror genre, failed, but I think this time they wanted to make a film so direct that possibly for them it was not feasible to delve into the suspense and if in the comedy and action, in that I must say that subtracts an important part, but adds to two others.
The script written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, is simple, it is not something to highlight and that has good moments and several bad ones; the good thing is the humor which is very well developed when the best played characters have to practice that role; the other thing is simple, the story is simple, a group of criminals, a kidnapping that goes wrong because of deadly secrets, I think that precisely because it is simple it should have been more direct and not fall into the repetitive, with repetitive I mean to explain the past and motives of the characters and I know it is something important for the development of the story, but having it twice and remember at various times is like taking the viewer for fools, that failure makes this story is not as fast as it should be; in my opinion having a duration of almost two hours was exaggerated.
No voy a mentir al decir que este era de los films que más quería ver en este segundo trimestre del año; el tráiler (que revela mucho de la historia) lo hizo ver entretenido y justamente eso era lo que quería ver aunque con expectativas bajas porque a pesar de recibir opiniones positivas, creo que estamos en un tiempo en donde se tiende a exagera para no decir engañar y debo decir que justamente esas expectativas me hizo disfrutar de ciertos momentos del film y me hizo ser críticos de otras en dónde no me sentí convencido y es que sentí cierta decepción al no presenciar escenas de terror a pesar de contar con varios personajes, me refiero al suspenso en dónde los personajes no saben que ocurre hasta llegar a una inevitable muerte; justamente eso pienso que fallo la pareja de directores Matt Bettinelli-Olpin y Tyler Gillett, quienes tienen una carrera extensa y actual en el género del terror, pero creo que en esta oportunidad querían hacer un film tan directo que posiblemente para ellos no era factible profundizar en el suspenso y si en la comedia y acción, en eso debo decir que resta un parte importante, pero suma a otras dos.
El guion escrito por Stephen Shields y Guy Busick, es simple, no es algo para destacar y eso que tiene momentos buenos y varios malos; lo bueno es el humor lo cual está muy bien desarrollado cuando los personajes mejor interpretados les toca practicar ese rol; lo otro es lo simple, la historia es simple, un grupo de criminales, un secuestro que sale mal por culpa de secretos mortales, creo que justamente por lo simple debió ser más directa y no caer en lo repetitivo, con lo de repetitivo me refiero a explicar pasado y motivos de los personajes y sé que es algo importante para el desarrollo de la historia, pero tenerlo dos veces y recordar en varios momentos es como tomar por tontos al espectador, ese fallo hace que esta historia no sea tan rápida como debió ser; en mi opinión tener una duración de casi dos horas fue exagerado.
The performances are bad, regular and good; the bad updates comes from Angus Cloud as "Dean", there is nothing interesting, I think the fame for being part of the series "Euphoria" positions him in that film and gives a performance just like his character, boring; the other bad performance is from Kathryn Newton as "Sammy" in the beginning her character is wrong and it is because of the work of this actress, she is one of the worst in the first act of the film and thank goodness she improves until she shows an excellent image in the final act; of the regular performances, there is no doubt that Melissa Barrera as "Joey" fits very well; her character is well played, but I think she is a victim of the script and it's a pity because her character has a lot of potential, but is not well developed; now the best ones are for Kevin Durand, Dan Stevens and Alisha Weir; the first two are great, they are funny, they have good chemistry between the scenes they share being one of the positive points of the film, but who I liked the most is Alisha for her interpretation of "Abigail"; she is funny, she is a spoiled, annoying and deadly girl and although I would have liked to see her in more terrifying scenes, I still think that her image, the attitude and the craziness of the character is perfect for the story; it's a great job.
Las actuaciones son malas, regulares y buenas; las malas actualizaciones proviene de Angus Cloud como "Dean", no hay nada interesante, creo que la fama por ser parte de la serie "Euphoria" lo posiciona en ese film y brinda una actuación justamente cómo su personaje, aburrido; la otra mala actuación es de Kathryn Newton como "Sammy" en un comienzo su personaje es errado y es por el trabajo de esta actriz, es de lo peor del primer acto del film y menos mal que va mejorando hasta mostrar una excelente imagen en el acto final; de las actuaciones regulares, no hay duda que Melissa Barrera como "Joey" encaja muy bien; su personaje está bien interpretado, pero creo que es víctima del guion y es una lástima porque su personaje tiene mucho potencial, pero no es bien desarrollado; ahora los mejores son para Kevin Durand, Dan Stevens y Alisha Weir; los dos primeros son geniales, son cómicos, tienen buena química entre las escenas que comparten siendo uno de los puntos positivos del film, pero quién más me ha gustado es Alisha por su interpretación de "Abigail"; es divertida, es una niña consentida, molesta y mortal y aunque me hubiera gustado verla en escenas más terroríficas, de igual manera pienso que su imagen, la actitud y la locura del personaje es perfecto para la historia; es un gran trabajo.
I can say that with a great percentage I enjoyed Abigail, it is not a perfect film it has many flaws, I think the need to try to create empathy towards certain characters, especially its two main characters and the thing of explaining every event or obvious situations in the film, that is annoying because I think it underestimates the viewer; it's a pity that it has bad elements because it has other very positive ones being the comedy the most important, the genre that really works in the film and makes me think that keeping that kind of comedy and releasing the real horror, with purely gore scenes, could have been a complete success and possibly a new franchise in the world of cinema; despite this little discouraging opinion, I think that if you want to watch a simple vampire movie, with good characters and good comedy, then this is a good or adequate option to have a good time.
Puedo decir que con un gran porcentaje disfrute de Abigail, no es una película perfecta tiene muchos fallos, creo que la necesidad de tratar de crear empatía hacia ciertos personajes, en especial a sus dos protagonistas y lo de explicar cada evento o situaciones obvias en el film, eso es molesto porque creo que subestima al espectador; es una lástima que tenga elementos malos porque tiene otros muy positivos siendo la comedia el más importante, el género que realmente funciona en el film y me hace pensar que mantener ese tipo de comedia y liberar el verdadero terror, con escenas netamente gore, se pudo tener un completo éxito y posiblemente una nueva franquicia en el mundo del cine; a pesar de esta opinión poco desalentadora, creo que si quieren pasar ver una película simple, de vampiros, con buenos personajes y buena comedia, entonces esta es una buena o adecuada opción para pasar el rato.

A mi me gustó, no vi el trailer porque el señor spoiler que te meten es grotesco, no entiendo la necesidad ya que si querían jugar con la expectativa de que es lo que realmente pasa pues verlo te quita todo el hype. Mucha gore, sangre, como debe de ser en una película de este estilo y lo que dices, el humor estuvo bueno.
Comparto lo de Angus, me dio pereza que lo usaran como el drogadicto mal pegado, el mismo personaje de Euphoria. Ese pana estoy seguro que era buen actor pero bueno.
Me hubiera gustado que fuera más gráfica, Abigail completamente desatada porque encontró a adversarios dignos, pero no es un mal film, es divertido y la escena del baile es mi favorita por lejos.
Lo de Angus es esa tonta necesidad de encasillar a un actor y puedo hasta decir que no estaba cómodo con el personaje, se vio sobreactuado, una lastima que su vida terminara tan pronto.
