[ESP-ENG] Film Review: BabyGirl | An escape from reality through a dangerous erotic relationship.

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace mucho se estuvo esperando el estreno de la nueva película de A24 llamada BabyGirl protagonizada por Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas y Harris Dickinson, una historia que llamaba mucho la atención por la connotación sexual acerca de la historia entre un joven pasante y su jefa. Las películas de A24 siempre me han parecido en su mayoría bizarras pero muy buenas y con excelentes tramas, así que tenía un poco de altas expectativas sobre esta historia y cómo se desarrollaría en medio del suspenso de la misma y del erotismo entre los personajes.

Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are well today. The premiere of A24's new movie called BabyGirl starring Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson has been long awaited, a story that drew a lot of attention because of the sexual connotation about the story between a young intern and his boss. I have always found A24's movies to be mostly bizarre but very good and with excellent plots, so I had a bit of high expectations about this story and how it would play out amidst the suspense of the story and the eroticism between the characters.

La trama nos cuenta la historia de Romy (Nicole Kidman) quien es una mujer que se dedica por completo a su trabajo y a su familia con su esposo Jacob (Antonio Banderas) y sus dos hijas adolescentes. En medio de la relación de Romy y Nicole parece faltar algo que la hace sentir a ella poco satisfecha sobre todo en lo sexual más allá de la buena relación que tienen como esposos y junto a sus hijas, así que en medio de estos pensamientos que persiguen a Romy sobre su relación y vida sexual conoce a un joven pasante en su empresa llamado Samuel, quien cambiará para siempre la dinámica de su vida y que llegara para llenar de pasión esos espacios vacíos entre la relación que ella mantiene con su esposo.

The plot tells the story of Romy (Nicole Kidman) who is a woman who is completely dedicated to her work and her family with her husband Jacob (Antonio Banderas) and their two teenage daughters. In the middle of Romy and Nicole's relationship there seems to be something missing that makes her feel unsatisfied, especially sexually, beyond the good relationship they have as spouses and with their daughters, so in the midst of these thoughts that haunt Romy about their relationship and sex life she meets a young intern in her company named Samuel, who will forever change the dynamics of her life and who will come to fill with passion those empty spaces between the relationship she has with her husband.

Samuel es un joven muy atractivo e inteligente que desde el primer momento tiene los ojos puestos en Romy a pesar de la brecha que existe entre sus roles en la empresa y que ella tiene un matrimonio muy bonito de más de dieciocho años con Jacob. Samuel tiene la astucia de meterse en la mente de Romy de maneras que ella nunca había experimentado descubriendo que podía sentir cosas con Samuel que no sentía con Jacob a pesar de acabar de conocerse y por supuesto empiezan los encuentros de vez en cuando en el trabajo que van intensificando la relación de Samuel y Romy, la cual se convierte en una especie de relación a escondidas donde puede ser ella misma y disfrutar del juego de seducción y erotismo en el que la envuelve Samuel quien también parece tener algunos comportamientos extraños donde insiste en seducir a su jefa pero a la vez la aleja con toda la intención de que la intensidad de las emociones crezcan y Romy se sienta aún más atraída hacia el.

Samuel is a very attractive and intelligent young man who from the first moment has his eyes on Romy despite the gap between their roles in the company and that she has a very nice marriage of over eighteen years to Jacob. Samuel has the cunning to get inside Romy's mind in ways she had never experienced discovering that she could feel things with Samuel that she didn't feel with Jacob even though they had just met and of course they begin to meet from time to time at work which intensifies Samuel and Romy's relationship, which turns into a kind of hidden relationship where she can be herself and enjoy the game of seduction and eroticism in which she is involved with Samuel who also seems to have some strange behaviors where he insists on seducing his boss but at the same time pushes her away with all the intention that the intensity of the emotions grow and Romy feels even more attracted to him.

Si vieron las películas de cincuenta sombras podrán acordarse de la dinámica entre el que da las ordenes y la que acepta y hace lo que el otro desea, así es como se manejan los encuentros entre Romy y Samuel dónde ambos experimentan diferentes formas de tener relaciones sexuales a través de la incertidumbre de poder ser descubiertos y la adrenalina de la diferencia de edad que existe entre ambos que aporta aún más intensidad entre cada escena que vamos viendo. Por más que Romy desea abandonar eso que está sucediendo con Samuel, este le recuerda que esto es lo que ella desea y que es ella la que se encarga de siempre encontrarse con él, mientras que Romy mantiene oculto todo de su familia y trata de parecer normal cada día pero las cosas van cambiando y pronto se podría saber la verdad.

If you saw the Fifty Shades movies you may remember the dynamic between the one who gives the orders and the one who accepts and does what the other wants, this is how the encounters between Romy and Samuel are handled, where both experience different ways of having sex through the uncertainty of being discovered and the adrenaline of the age difference that exists between them, which brings even more intensity between each scene we see. As much as Romy wants to abandon what is happening with Samuel, he reminds her that this is what she wants and that she is the one who is always in charge of meeting him, while Romy keeps everything hidden from her family and tries to look normal every day but things are changing and soon the truth could be known.

La película fue dirigida y coproducida por Halina Reijn quién además es escritora y actriz holandesa, tener a una directora mujer hizo que la película se sintiera más real desde el punto de vista de una mujer, desde el deseo y la pasión que pueden llegar a sentir las mujeres en medio de relaciones prohibidas y la idea de tener pensamientos intensos acerca del sexo y la satisfacción. Nicole Kidman muestra la prueba de una mujer que en parte por sus propios pensamientos que le causan disgustos y una guerra entre la mujer que debería ser y la que desea ser, se ve envuelta en esta relación donde busca maneras de poder ser atractiva ante los ojos de Samuel cambiando por completo su actitud, haciendo miles de tratamientos para verse mejor físicamente y vistiendose de manera más provocativa y juvenil.

The film was directed and co-produced by Halina Reijn who is also a Dutch writer and actress, having a female director made the film feel more real from a woman's point of view, from the desire and passion that women can feel in the midst of forbidden relationships and the idea of having intense thoughts about sex and satisfaction. Nicole Kidman shows the test of a woman who, partly because of her own thoughts that cause her to be upset and a war between the woman she should be and the woman she wants to be, gets involved in this relationship where she looks for ways to be attractive in Samuel's eyes by completely changing her attitude, doing thousands of treatments to look better physically and dressing in a more provocative and youthful way.

La dinamica entre las escenas sexuales fueron buenas pero se sintieron vacías ya que no sentí la química entre Harris Dickinson y Nicole Kidman, tal vez ambos actores en otros papeles han sobresalido pero en esta película no funcionaron para mí como una relación y menos se sintió algún tipo de suspenso mayor al que se esperaba sobre si Romy iba a ser descubierta por su esposo o no. Aunque hay escenas buenas sobre todo la del final de la película donde las cosas continúan su curso y muestran una escena que tiene un poco de impacto pero que se veía venir. Para ser una película de A24 siento que es de las más normales y poco atrayentes que hay, faltó química entre los actores y la historia estuvo bastante normal, no va más allá de la emoción de algunas personas que exacerbaron la película como una gran producción.

The dynamics between the sex scenes were good but felt empty as I didn't feel the chemistry between Harris Dickinson and Nicole Kidman, maybe both actors in other roles have excelled but in this film they didn't work for me as a relationship let alone felt any kind of suspense greater than expected as to whether Romy was going to be discovered by her husband or not. Although there are some good scenes especially the one at the end of the movie where things continue to run their course and show a scene that has a bit of impact but you could see it coming. For an A24 movie I feel that it is one of the most normal and unappealing ones out there, it lacked chemistry between the actors and the story was pretty normal, it doesn't go beyond the emotion of some people who exacerbated the movie as a big production.
