[ESP-ENG] Film Review: Take This Waltz (2011)
Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. El día de ayer estuve revisando mi lista de películas por ver en la aplicación de Letterboxd y me llamo la atención una del año 2011 llamada Take This Waltz que me costó un mundo encontrar por internet pero al final la conseguí en una página de películas online, está película no es muy conocida por lo que he visto y cuenta con la actuación de Michelle Williams conocida por sus papeles en Manchester by the sea, Blue Valentine, Suite Francaise, The Fabelmans entre otros proyectos. Para mí una de las mejores actuaciones que tiene Michelle Williams fue en la Suite Francaise y Manchester by the sea, ambas películas son muy diferentes ya que una es de drama y la otra de romance/época pero donde ella hace un excelente trabajo como actriz, así que esto me motivo aún más a mirar está película llamada Take This Waltz ☺️

Yesterday I was reviewing my list of movies to watch in the Letterboxd application and I was struck by a 2011 movie called Take This Waltz that took me a world to find online but in the end I got it on an online movie site, this movie is not very well known from what I've seen and features Michelle Williams known for her roles in Manchester by the sea, Blue Valentine, Suite Francaise, The Fabelmans among other projects. For me one of the best performances Michelle Williams has had was in Suite Francaise and Manchester by the sea, both movies are very different as one is a drama and the other a romance/epic but where she does an excellent job as an actress, so this motivated me even more to watch this movie called Take This Waltz ☺️
La historia de Take This Waltz dirigida por Sarah Polley del año 2011 nos cuenta la vida de Margot (Michelle Williams) una mujer joven que tiene poco tiempo de haberse casado con Lou (Seth Rogen) la persona que ella creía amar incondicionalmente, ambos tienen una relación bastante buena aunque en algunas ocasiones tienen sus encuentros incómodos donde se puede notar que tal vez uno de los principales problemas de su relación es la falta de comunicación, donde siempre Margot hace cosas que en el comienzo de la relacion hicieron que ambos se sintieran enamorados e inseparables pero que ahora con la monotonía y la vida de pareja parece que ya no es tan bonito como lo veían, al menos en el caso de Margot ella se empieza a sentir un poco desilusionada y a la vez mal consigo misma por tener estos pensamientos cuando debería estar feliz porque ella eligió a la persona indicada, pero las cosas empiezan a cambiar cuando llega a su vida un hombre llamado Daniel (Luke Kirby).
The story of Take This Waltz directed by Sarah Polley in 2011 tells us the life of Margot (Michelle Williams) a young woman who has recently married Lou (Seth Rogen) the person she thought she loved unconditionally, both have a pretty good relationship but sometimes have their awkward encounters where you can see that perhaps one of the main problems in their relationship is the lack of communication, where Margot always does things that in the beginning of the relationship made them both feel in love and inseparable but now with the monotony and life as a couple it seems that it is no longer as nice as they saw it, at least in the case of Margot she begins to feel a little disappointed and at the same time bad with herself for having these thoughts when she should be happy because she chose the right person, but things begin to change when a man named Daniel (Luke Kirby) comes into her life.
Daniel es un hombre que llega a vivir al mismo vecindario dónde vive Margot junto a su esposo, pero su primer encuentro realmente es en un avión dónde ella conoce a Daniel y siente una sensación de que lo conoce como si fuera alguien que ella ya hubiera visto antes en la vida. Daniel es un artista nato y le gusta pasar el tiempo entre su arte y además tiene una especie de carro con asientos que lo maneja el mismo mientras va caminando hacia algún lugar, Margot trata de no darle tanta importancia al hecho de que siente que le atrae Daniel de una manera que no puede explicar pero las cosas se van convirtiendo en una relación de amistad y ella no puede evitar pensar que su matrimonio tal vez no sea lo que ella hubiera deseado para su vida, mientras ve a Daniel tan diferente a su esposo y con un encanto para escabullirse en su vida que le genera un gran miedo.
Daniel is a man who comes to live in the same neighborhood where Margot lives with her husband, but their first meeting is actually on an airplane where she meets Daniel and feels a sense of knowing him as if he is someone she has seen before in her life. Daniel is a born artist and likes to spend time with his art and also has a kind of car with seats that he drives himself while walking somewhere, Margot tries not to give so much importance to the fact that she feels attracted to Daniel in a way that she can not explain but things are becoming a friendship and she can not help thinking that her marriage may not be what she would have wanted for her life, while she sees Daniel so different from her husband and with a charm to sneak into her life that generates a great fear.
En esta historia dentro de un matrimonio que está consolidado y que a la vista de la familia de ambos y de los amigos cercanos parece ser perfecto hay cosas que simplemente pueden ocurrir como el ya no sentir el mismo deseo de estar con su esposo como le ocurre a Margot, a pesar de que al comienzo de las historia podemos ver la confianza y los juegos que ambos hacen desde que eran novios hasta ahora que son esposos, puede que si se amaran pero nunca se sabe cuándo conocerás a alguien que realmente te haga sentir que el amor es algo que no se busca si no que simplemente ocurre o que va creciendo con el tiempo, en el caso de Margot siempre pensó que Lou era la persona indicada para ella, su mejor amigo y el esposo que siempre deseo pero resulta que ella también tiene dudas sobre lo que realmente desea en la vida y se encuentra un poco perdida y está en esa edad en la que no sabe si debería elegir lo que es correcto o seguir a su corazón y hacer lo que realmente le hace feliz.
In this story within a marriage that is consolidated and that at the sight of the family of both and close friends seems to be perfect there are things that can simply happen as no longer feel the same desire to be with her husband as happens to Margot, although at the beginning of the story we can see the trust and the games that both do since they were boyfriend and girlfriend until now that they are spouses, maybe they did love each other but you never know when you will meet someone who really makes you feel that love is something that you don't look for but it just happens or it grows with time, in Margot's case she always thought that Lou was the right person for her, her best friend and the husband she always wanted but it turns out that she also has doubts about what she really wants in life and she is a little lost and she is at that age where she doesn't know if she should choose what is right or follow her heart and do what really makes her happy.
La directora Sarah Polley logra crear un ambiente dentro de la película en la que puedes sentir como el matrimonio de Margot y Lou comienza de una forma muy especial y que luego va en decadencia hasta que las cosas ya son insostenibles, las escenas de ellos como matrimonio están perfectamente capturadas para dar esa sensación de amor dentro del matrimonio y a la vez podemos ver la desilusión que viene poco a poco a la vida de Margot cuando se da cuenta que las cosas ya no son tan especiales como antes y que siente que Daniel es la persona que siempre estuvo esperando y que sin ella decir una sola palabra él puede saber lo que piensa y siente, es una conexión que pocas veces se da pero que en el contexto en el que se encuentran es difícil ya que Margot tiene un compromiso y deberá tomar la decisión que le haga sentir segura y además feliz.
Director Sarah Polley manages to create an atmosphere within the film in which you can feel how Margot and Lou's marriage begins in a very special way and then goes into decline until things are already untenable, the scenes of them as a married couple are perfectly captured to give that feeling of love within the marriage and at the same time we can see the disillusionment that comes little by little to Margot's life when she realizes that things are no longer as special as before and she feels that Daniel is the person she was always waiting for and that without her saying a single word he can know what she thinks and feels, it is a connection that rarely happens but in the context in which they are is difficult since Margot has a commitment and must make the decision that makes her feel safe and also happy.
Además de esta historia dónde se debate el personaje de Margot entre lo que es correcto y la pasión que siente hacia Daniel llamó mí atención que el título de la película está inspirado en la famosa canción "Take This Waltz" de Leonard Cohen como a la metáfora de bailar el vals, que simboliza el ritmo y las dinámicas cambiantes de las relaciones. A lo largo de la película, vemos cómo los personajes principales, Margot y Lou, bailan este "vals" emocional mientras enfrentan sus propias luchas internas y dilemas. Es una historia que al comienzo es un poco lenta y además la película tiene una duración de dos horas, pero luego de la mitad podemos empezar a ver todo el sentimiento de desamor y cómo algunas veces encontramos a la persona indicada en el momento incorrecto y debemos saber si solo es algo que nos hará feliz momentáneamente o seguir adelante con la vida que ya hemos construido.
In addition to this story where Margot's character is torn between what is right and the passion she feels for Daniel, I was struck by the fact that the title of the film is inspired by Leonard Cohen's famous song "Take This Waltz" as a metaphor for waltzing, symbolizing the rhythm and changing dynamics of relationships. Throughout the film, we see how the main characters, Margot and Lou, dance this emotional "waltz" as they face their own internal struggles and dilemmas. It's a story that is a bit slow at the beginning and also the film is two hours long, but after halfway through we can start to see the whole feeling of heartbreak and how sometimes we find the right person at the wrong time and we must know if it's just something that will make us momentarily happy or move on with the life we have already built.
Es una película que invita a ver el lado de las complejidades de las relaciones y el amor, además de las decisiones que tomamos y como podrían afectar estás tanto nuestra vida como a las personas que queremos, la actuación de Michelle Williams estuvo como siempre increíble y a la altura de su personaje además de mostrar esa imagen de una mujer que pasa por fuertes conflictos internos y que además intenta encontrar la paz y el amor en el camino, lo único que no me gustó tanto fue que la película estuvo un poco larga pero aún así es una película que muestra una realidad en las relaciones de pareja y que me recordó un poco al papel de Michelle Williams en la película Blue Valentine junto a Ryan Gosling dónde también se habla de una relación que se va desmoronando poco a poco. It is a film that invites you to see the complexities of relationships and love, in addition to the decisions we make and how they could affect both our lives and the people we love, Michelle Williams' performance was as always incredible and at the height of her character as well as showing that image of a woman who goes through strong internal conflicts and also tries to find peace and love along the way, The only thing I didn't like so much was that the movie was a little long but it is still a movie that shows a reality in relationships and reminded me a little of Michelle Williams' role in the movie Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling where it also talks about a relationship that is falling apart little by little.
