"No one gets out alive" has something different

As I have mentioned before, the genres I am most passionate about are horror and suspense, however, I feel that the industry has been running out of good ideas, lately I have seen more of the same in horror movies and in that sense new and revolutionary proposals have become necessary. I can understand that genres have their limitations and that the imagination of writers, screenwriters and directors is not infinite, but I believe that, with the necessary incentive, it is possible to present something that goes a little further and therefore make us feel attracted at least for a few minutes, even more so in these times when the content comes and goes incessantly.

“No one gets out alive” is a horror movie from the year 2021 that we can currently in the Netflix catalog, it has a duration of 85 minutes and was directed by Santiago Menghini, a director totally unknown to me and of whom I don't have any kind of references. I also don't have any kind of knowledge regarding the main characters, but I can tell you that Mexican Cristina Rodlo did a pretty interesting job with her role as “Ambar”, we also see actors like Marc Menchaca and David Figlioli.

This film takes us to Cleveland, where an illegal immigrant desperate to get papers and work, stays in a horrible building where only women are allowed. From the first moment everything seems to be quite gloomy and mysterious in the spaces of that building, but it is the only thing Ambar can afford and she has no choice but to make do with it. The anxiety and desperation to obtain stability in the U.S. torment the mind of this girl who tries by all means to obtain papers even trying to do it through a person who says he could help her, but he ends up scamming her, thus increasing the stress level in Ambar.

The above mentioned was to give you some context regarding the interesting character that stars in this story, I think I had never seen one with a background like this in a movie of this genre, usually they are people with pretty normal lives, so somehow I feel that this situation breaks the mold as far as leading characters are concerned; however, what was not so different is that this girl was a kind of medium, a quality she inherited from her mother, so she had the ability to see spirits and that has been seen in other movies.

Back to the plot, Ambar begins to see strange things in the house and also has nightmares that feel quite real. The landlords of the house, two brothers who from the first moment look suspicious, show a strange attitude, especially Becker, who doesn't look normal at all and in certain aspects is quite aggressive. Ambar does everything she can to leave the house, as the strange things she sees are becoming more and more frequent, but she needs a monetary deposit back, which, considering her situation, is more than necessary.

It turns out that what the two brothers are hiding is something quite disturbing, many women have suffered a bloody fate in that house and Ambar begins to understand it as the plot unfolds, but with some courage and strength she tries to escape what seems to be a terrible fate for her, did she succeed? Well, the name of the film seems to make it pretty clear, but you'll have to find out for yourself.

“No one gets out alive” is a film that was unremarkable on its release, but I consider it a hidden gem in this genre that has become so repetitive. There are elements that make it distinctive and refreshing. I found the ghostly element very interesting, it reminded me of the monsters of Japanese culture since they don't exist just to scare, but to kill in a rather Dantesque way, also granting “benefits” to those who offer victims. If you are a fan of the horror and suspense genre, well, you can watch this movie with confidence, although it is not the best of all time, it will give you a few minutes of intrigue, from my side it is recommended.

Omar wrote to you and it was a pleasure for me to share with you this review, I hope you liked it, see you soon!

From the first 2 seconds of the trailer you can tell it's a horror movie.
It looks good actually, it looks really scary to watch it.
I haven't seen horror movies in a while, I've avoided watching them.

From time to time it's good to watch these types of movies to refresh the mind regarding movie genres, but I understand that horror is not for everyone.

What you say about the plot and its development is true, it breaks with the usual even though it converges on the same thing, it still contributes something fascinating to the genre 🤘
