NIFFF 2024 - MY FAVOURITES MOVIES
As promised, I've compiled my list of the favorite films of the 2024 program that I saw during the NIFFF festival from July 3 to 13, 2024. All in all, I had the immense good crazy luck to see 30 films in all. Yes, that's quite a lot, because it's not every day that I go to the cinema, let alone see 20 films in such a short space of time (one week) 😛.
Then, as we say in one French expression: “When you love you don't count“ 😋
Here's a list of the films I've saw and who made me the biggest impression on me:
MAXXXINE
source
Sick film with ultra-epic and sensational scenes. The film is part of a trilogy by director TI WEST; the latest films was X and Prequel.
Set in Los Angeles in the '80s, it tells the story of a crazy group of adult film actresses in Los Angeles in the '80s, threatened by a serial killer and where Maxxxine manages to break through everything...
IMMACULATE
source
Holy shit! What’s a movie based on spirituality from MICHAEL MOHAN!!!!!!! It gave me a weird reminder about going back to church to worship! 🤯😱
It's been a long time since I haven’t seen an horror film on the subject of spirituality! That was too strong! I really loved it immensely.
The film takes place in a convent in Italy with actress Sydney Sweeney taking her vows in order to become a nun. Completely sick, with horrifying scenes that will make your blood run cold; I highly recommend it!
DES TEUFEL BAD
source
This movie is from the directory Veronica Franz and Severin Fiala. Based on dubious spirituality, loneliness and sexism. It's one hell of an enigmatic thriller of very dark depth. If you're not afraid of real horror movies, this is one you'll remember!
LES PISTOLETS EN PLASTIQUE
source
Based on a true story, this is the sick story of France's most wanted man BUT in a really humorous version from the director JEAN-CHRISTOPHE MEURISSE.
Indeed, it's the story of Dupont de Ligonnès! The tragic case of a husband and father who murdered his entire family and disappeared to this day! Nobody knows where he is, or even if he's still alive. It's a real enigma and a never-ending nightmare 😖
EXHUMA
source
Exhumation is already very rare, and fortunately so; it's still a taboo subject (just like death) and a complicated one in some cultures. The story of the film is the burial of an Asian family's ancestors, who then come back to life. From JANG JAE-HYEON, the history of the movie is based on a mortician and incredible shamanism (which I hope one day to see in real life!), it's hyper-cultural! I love it sick!!!!!!! 🤩😍
Through a new friend I met at NIFFF, who is studying at the university of Letters and Human Sciences, she was able to give me a little background of The History. She told me that, to really understand the movie you should know a little bit of the Asian mythology, foxes are a kind of deity that can interact with human beings. Basically, foxes are fox-spirits, i.e. magical creatures that can transform into or possess humans. They can be hostile or benevolent towards humans; they are seen as malevolent... (between the desire to become a human or a 9-tailed fox = Kumiho in Korean...) 🐺😱
THE LAST ASHES
source
The film is from LOÏC TANSON and i set in Luxembourg in 1854. Sensational and a bit witty; I loved the magnificent horses we can show on it. The story is about the last survivors of modern-day slavery, especially of little girls. Now an adult, Hélène returns to the land of her traumas to seek revenge. Trashy and inspiring, it will take you on a journey.
GOOD MADAM
The film delves into one of the stories of segregation in South African high society. The directory is a woman; JENNA BASS. It's the kind of film like: Shutter Island; that what at the end; it's total suspense and the viewer imagines the meaning. Moreover, that was the only African screening I saw during the festival, but I don't regret it at all; I recommend it to you.
NUEVO ORDEM
Thriller directed by MICHEL FRANCO. This is the special story of the inhabitants of a city in Latin America, Mexico. The film shows the gulf between rich and poor in a serious degradation 😵
THE CURSED LAND
source
From PANU AREE and KONG RITHDEE. The film is tracing the life of a father and daughter who move into a brand-new house for the father's new job. In a mood of Muslim spirituality, diverse beliefs and curses: Wow! Respect!
An horror movie about the situation in southern Thailand, which was supposed to be an independent state. Today, it's a democratic and more military place, if I've understood correctly. The director also included some footage of the enslavement of the Malay people, who were chained to walk with chains, and the Achilles heel injury...
Moreover, I had took this lucky occasion to ask for an quick interview and autograph from one of the sensational director KONG RITHDEE who was present on that day.
As I was able to communicate to the director; the film is very profound, it's one of the only films, no the only one that actually gave me chills at the point I felt the cold...
DUMPLINGS
source
It's a story of cannibalism who's different from others, light-hearted but profound!
The film tells the story of a lady who prepares dumplings made from human parts. Completely nonsensical but very strongly realistic; the director of the film: FRUIT CHAN tamed our in-imaginations for real madness that I'm sure some crazy in this world would do or even dream about!!!!!!! 😱
And the 11 - The Closing Film: LONGLEGS
source
Another crazy and an absurd film!
Oh la la... I'll never regret seeing this penultimate film to end our festival!
Is a thriller by OZ PERKINS and starring Nicolas Cage! Wow! I was immensely impressed by his performance! Honestly, Big Respect to him! As simply, that is another crazy story about a psychopath who plays with people's lives. Honestly, the film is so unexpected and spectacular that I have nothing to tell you except to go and see it!
💫By the way I want to say a big shoutout to theses films 🗣☝️💫
In A Violent Nature; Ghost In The Shell; Ennennum; Gazer; Things will be different; Fly Me To The Saitamata, Toxic Daughter; The Square; Braking And Re-entering; Love, Lies, Bleeding.
And of course American Psycho and Matrix
Did you ever seen some of these crazy films and which are your favourites?
The Control Room of the Rex Cinema in Neuchâtel
Curious as hell, I dared, at the end of a film, I took all my forces to ask the person in charge of the control room that day for a tour of the premises...
👉 Incredible! You know what?!?
They accepted, and moreover I had the green point to post it here on Hive, my Blog. Therefore, I was able to see yet another part of the world of cinema: backstage and especially the control room = where everything happens.... 🤩
Some activities during the NIFFF Festival
Immersion With the Dr. Jekyll
This immersion was unique, and I loved it immensely! 😍
Even though I was alone, I felt at ease and at ease. The actor - Dr. Jekyll - is ultra-genius and really gets into character; Bravo! 👏👏👏
Here is The Real Photography of the labour for the immersion in Dr. Jekyll's laboratory
So here's my special photo
I'm right, aren't I? What do you think?!?!?!? Where do you get off thinking like that?!?
I also wanted to show you a quickshare complementation; For the NIFFF; an artist friend named: Dodo. He produced a magnificent and original work in a second-hand store: La Deuxième Shop.
It's an installation made entirely of medical materials recovered at the CHUV during his complete laryngectomy operation.
Here is the NIFFF website and all the programmation for this 23th edition.
By the way, If you manage to visit our wonderful country the Switzerland once make sure to be here in Neuchatel on summer and of course to buy your pass for the NIFFF festival; trust me you will never regret it 😉
Always with a lot of love and hugs 💋😘👐
