The Classic - 𝑶𝒍𝒅 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝑮𝒐𝒍𝒅 (K-Movie Review)

I can't remember how I came across this Korean movie but I can remember how excited I was to see our "Son Ye-Jin" so young and still as beautiful as now in such an old movie. It's still amazing to me how people age but don't look like they are, I've met a lot of people like that and I actually pray to be like that too hehe.

That's by the way, so I came by this Korean movie "The Classic" and I had it downloaded without thinking the risk of wasting my time seeing it.

That's because I saw the female lead from the popular Korean series "Crash Landing On You", "Personal Taste", "Something In The Rain", these are the ones I've seen actually. I got interested to see her again and I found myself seeing this short old movie. I don't see short movies often but I do sometimes and this is one after a long time I saw the last short movie.

"The Classic" is a Korean movie released in the year 2003. Starred by Son Ye-jin, Zo In-sung, Cho Seung-woo and Lee Ki-woo. My first time getting to see most of them in a movie, an old movie at that.

You know those storylines about true love passing through times and letters?

This movie is all about that and more, if you wouldn't mind how old it is now. I had to see the movie to more than 20 minutes into it before I got the vibe it was giving. It had the regular kinda love story but was acted out differently which is expected.

The storyline was like... A girl who helps her best friend write love letters to a guy she is also in love with, she finds old letters exchanged by her mother and her almost future father. Everything written on the letter seem to be what is repeating in her own life and it piqued her interest to read all the letters.

The movie takes us back to the time her mother was young and in love with a common guy. They loved each other but couldn't be together because of the status difference and her betrothed. Even though they tried all they could, things didn't turn out well for the two.

The movie had some unexpected twists that I appreciated as I didn't have high expectation for what it had to offer but I was still disappointed for something that took place in the movie.

Maybe I'll have a lot more to say about this movie if I had a high expectation for it when I saw the female lead but I didn't and so, I wasn't so disappointed but I won't happily recommend it to anyone. The movie is old but not gold to me unlike how "King 2 Hearts", another old series made me feel.

It got boring at some point too, imagine just watching a girl who is reading a letter and then they show where the letter is being written. Or imagine two love birds acting too childish about their love but choosing to stay away from each other until many times have passed.

I like the brief aspect of the character who had to fight a losing war and almost lost his life, the promise he kept but couldn't keep it fully... I was really shocked at the outcome, they got me there.

You can choose to see the movie anyways, I saw it till the end and I'm reviewing it because it really wasn't a waste of release and the characters tried. I only wished they did a lot better with the plot and some scenes they didn't need to add. For all these, I'll give a rating of 7/10. Now, let me get back to continue the recent Korean series I started hehe.

That's a strong rating for a film you wouldn't happily recommend. I guess it's not all bad, then. What's the most recent film you've seen Son Ye-Jin in?

Yeah, not all that bad but not gold either 😅
That should be "Crash Landing On You" before this short movie
