When I need to watch something that relaxes me and makes me feel calm, Studio Ghibli is always one of the best options. Somehow, through their magic, they manage to transmit beautiful feelings that make us watch the movies more than once.
Howl's Moving Castle is one of those productions that are simply beautiful, so today I want to share my opinion on this animated film from 2004.

Synopsis
Sophie lives in a rather hectic city. She makes hats, which she is quite talented at, but in general her life is quite ordinary, all calm in the midst of chaos.
One day by chance (or maybe not?) she stumbles upon the mysterious and irreverent Howl, an eccentric wizard who always manages to cause a fuss but this time he managed to save Sophie.
However, shortly after that she would meet the Witch of the Waste who casts a spell on her that turns her into an old woman. Desperate, Sophie tries to find a way to remove the spell, and the solution may be inside the moving castle, Howl's castle...
This story is adapted from the book of the same name written by Diana Wynne Jones in 1986, although as I have not read it, I will speak exclusively about what is discussed in the film.
The story has a fairly fluid rhythm, despite its duration of almost two hours, the truth is that you do not feel the passage of time since you are immersed in the plot. It is striking, full of fantasy and adventures presented from the magical as well as the innocent, the perfect mix for a child audience as well as the older one, since it is light and extremely entertaining for its weirdness.
Very much in the Japanese style there are things that may seem a bit far-fetched, but it is the essence of this story, mixing an important message with magical things.
Speaking of messages, this film touches on some important things, such as youth, which is so coveted by so many, that virtue that makes us feel invincible and for which we would give everything to retain it for the rest of our lives. Here they show us that although it is a good thing that helps us in many aspects of our lives, when youth ends it does not mean that life stops having a meaning. With or without youth, we can achieve great things that will make us feel great joy or even more than what we would have done when we were young, since little is said about the wisdom that comes with age, which allows us to better understand situations and therefore, enjoy them more.
Along with that idea, they talk about courage, which is not just a characteristic of youth, but is something deeper that can be with us throughout our lives and thanks to that virtue, we can face the difficulties. Courage does not mean lack of fear, but that even with fear you are able to move forward and do whatever it takes to achieve a greater good.
We also see in various characters the different properties that a person may have, seeing that although they may seem important, there are things that objectively are not, such as vanity or greed, so we must learn the true value of things and reform that order of priorities that may be affecting us without realizing it. Prioritizing something wrong can lead us to take inappropriate actions.
On the other hand, there is something that if perhaps we all had as a priority, life would be much simpler, because love, as cliché as it may sound, is the energy that moves us. Not only romantic love, but also love for a friend, a family member, for a passion, for yourself, for life... Love is a pure feeling that is born from wanting the best for that which we love.
It may involve sacrifices, but growing as a person leads you to really evaluate what you have been doing, the things you have been believing in, and finally, let go of those things that do not fit your well-being in order to change for your own good and that of others.
All these things and more are dealt with in the film through different characters without making it a tedious subject, since it uses magic as a medium. It has charismatic characters that in their own way leave you with life lessons. Like a storytelling grandmother, Sophie, along with her companions, teach you with tenderness what life should be. A journey of learning.
Aside from complementing the perfect narration, the animation is spectacular as well as the soundtrack, which if you ask me, is one of the most beautiful that the studio has. Everything in this film is made to move emotions in the viewer and they achieved it in an incredible way.
So yes, I completely recommend you watch this film if you haven't, or watch it again because it really is a beauty of Japanese animated cinema.

Cuando necesito ver algo que me relaje y me haga sentir tranquilidad, Studio Ghibli siempre es una de las mejores opciones. De alguna forma a través de su magia logran trasmitir sentimientos bonitos que hacen que veamos las películas más de una vez.
El Castillo Ambulante es una de esas producciones que son sencillamente hermosas, por lo que hoy quiero compartir mi opinión sobre esta película animada del 2004.

Sinopsis
Sophie vive en una ciudad bastante agitada. Ella se dedica a confeccionar sombreros, para lo cual tiene bastante talento, pero en general su vida es bastante ordinaria, todo tranquilidad en medio del caos.
Un día por casualidad (¿o quizá no?) se tropieza con el misterioso e irreverente Howl, un excéntrico mago que se las arregla para siempre causar un alboroto pero esta vez se las ingenió para salvar a Sophie.
Sin embargo, poco tiempo después de eso ella conocería a la Bruja del Páramo quien le lanza un hechizo que la convierte en una anciana. Sophie desesperada intenta encontrar la manera de quitarse el hechizo, y la solución puede que esté dentro del castillo ambulante, el castillo de Howl...
Esta historia está adaptada del libro del mismo nombre escrito por Diana Wynne Jones en 1986, aunque como no lo he leído, hablaré exclusivamente de lo tratado en la película.
La historia tiene un ritmo bastante fluido, a pesar de que su duración sea de casi dos horas, lo cierto es que no se siente el paso del tiempo puesto que estás inmerso en la trama. Esta es llamativa, llena de fantasía y aventuras planteadas desde lo mágico así como inocente, la mezcla perfecta para un público infantil así cómo el más grande, puesto que es ligera y sumamente entretenida por sus rarezas.
Muy al estilo japonés hay cosas que quizá parezcan algo descabelladas, pero es la esencia de esta historia, mezclar un mensaje importante con cosas mágicas.
Justamente hablando de los mensajes, en esta película tocan algunas cosas importantes como por ejemplo la juventud, tan codiciada por tantos, aquella virtud que nos hace sentir invencibles y por la que daríamos todo para retener el resto de nuestras vidas. Aquí nos demuestran que si bien es algo bueno que nos ayuda en muchos aspectos de nuestra vida, cuando acaba la juventud no quiere decir que la vida deja de tener sentido. Con o sin juventud, podemos lograr grandes cosas que nos harán sentir gran regocijo o incluso más que lo que hubiera hecho siendo jóvenes, puesto que poco se habla de la sabiduría que viene con la edad, lo que nos permite comprender mejor las situaciones y por tanto, disfrutarlas más.
Junto a esa idea nos hablan del valor, que no es una característica solo del jóven, sino que es algo más profundo que puede acompañarnos toda la vida y gracias a esa virtud, podemos afrontar las dificultades de la vida. El valor no quiere decir falta de miedo, sino que incluso con temor eres capaz de seguir adelante y hacer lo que haga falta por conseguir un bien mayor.
También vemos en varios personajes las distintas propiedades que una persona pueda tener, viendo que aunque puedan parecer importantes, hay cosas que objetivamente no lo son, como la vanidad o codicia, por lo que debemos aprender el verdadero valor de las cosas y reformar ese orden de prioridades que puede estar afectándonos sin darnos cuenta. Priorizar algo equivocado puede llevarnos a tomar acciones inadecuadas.
Por otro lado, existe algo que si quizás todos tuviéramos como prioridad, la vida sería mucho más sencilla, pues el amor, por muy cliché que suene, es la energía que nos mueve. No solamente el amor romántico, sino también el amor hacia un amigo, un familiar, hacía una pasión, a ti mismo, a la vida... El amor es un sentimiento puro que nace del querer lo mejor para aquello que amamos.
Puede implicar sacrificios, pero crecer como persona te lleva a realmente evaluar lo que has estado haciendo, las cosas en las que has estado creyendo y finalmente, dejar atrás aquellas que no se ajustan a ti bienestar para así cambiar para tu propio bien y el de otros.
Todas estas cosas y más son tratadas en la película a través de distintos personajes sin hacerlo un tema tedioso, puesto que utiliza la magia como medio. Tiene personajes carismáticos que a su manera te dejan lecciones de vida, como una abuelita cuentacuentos, Sophie junto a sus acompañantes te enseñan con ternura lo que debería ser la vida. Un viaje de aprendizaje.
Aparte como complemento para la narración perfecta, la animación es espectacular así como la banda sonora que si me lo preguntan, es una de las más hermosas que tiene el estudio. Todo en esta película está hecho para mover emociones en el espectador y lo lograron de una forma increíble.
Así que sí, te recomiendo completamente ver esta película si no lo has hecho, o volver a verla porque realmente es una hermosura del cine animado japonés.

It was one of the first movies I watched of the Ghibli studio, those years in which I decided to watch all their movies because they had captivated me 😍
Of course, as always, I didn't fully understand them, I was very little haha but they all left a message about life, this is not the exception ❤️
When we're little we don't usually understand the messages but they definitely leave a seed that when you grow and rewatch everything it suddenly makes sense.

Me encanta mucho esta película, al igual que todas las de los Studios Ghibli, pero esta le tengo un aprecio mucho más fuerte por la historia y la forma en la que desarrollan los personajes. Era una de las típicas películas animadas que veía siempre en la televisión cuando era pequeño. La cantidad de referencias, temas, tradiciones y significados que transmite cada detalle de la historia, los personajes y los objetos en sí es increíble. Me encanta bastante.

Pues sí, la banda sonora y la animación tienen también un valor incalculable en esta película, además de destacarse bastante de las demás. Buah, es que la mayoría de las películas de los Studios Ghibli son casi perfectos en cuanto a animación, historia, personajes, banda sonora, todo.

It's funny how I couldn't appreciate this movie the first time I watched it... maybe because I was too young back then, but re-watching it as an adult, I fell in love with it. :)
Oh that can happen, when we were kids there's plenty of things we didn't quite get, but once you grow up you start to appreciate it. This is a gorgeous movie and I'm glad you could enjoy it :)

Something happened to me with this film and I only saw it recently despite it being a classic. The movie is a spectacle, the animation, the way it is told and above all the soundtrack, that particular song is special. I enjoyed it a lot when I saw it, I did not understand how so much time had passed and I had not been able to miss it. I think it is the best of Ghibli without a doubt!
It definitely is one of their best work to this day. Truly a masterpiece. Everything is gorgeous and perfectly well done, and that song you mentioned was definitely stuck in my head for a veeeery long time. It's just perfect.
