Madeline (Review) ESP/ENG
I would like to share with you this time the review of a film that I liked a lot in my pre-adolescence, I was about 13 years old when I saw it for the first time, recently I saw it again and apart from the fact that it filled me with nostalgia I laughed again with the witticisms of this nice Parisian girl.
Me gustaría compartir con ustedes en esta ocasión la review de una película que me gustaba muchísimo en mi pre adolescencia, yo tenía unos 13 años cuando la vi por primera vez, recientemente volví a verla y a parte de que me llenó de nostalgia volví a reírme con las ocurrencias de esta simpática niña parisina.
Overview/Resumen
Madeline is an orphan girl that someone left abandoned in a school for girls in Paris, there she is cared for by a nun who is the teacher and also acts as her mother as she not only scolds her when she has to but also gives her understanding and love. For years the girls lived in peace in that school as the owner of the property was happy with it and loved the girls, but after her death her husband inherited the property and decided to sell it, something that made the girls very sad but especially Madeline, because being an orphan she would have to be relocated in an orphanage and of course be separated from the nun who has always taken care of her, So every day she invents a new plan to sabotage the new owner's attempts to sell the house to prospective buyers, and it all becomes more fun when the Spanish ambassador moves in next door and his mischievous son joins in Madeline's madcap antics.
Madeline es una niña huérfana que alguien dejó abandonada en un colegio para niñas de París, allí es atendida por una monja que es la maestra y también actúa como su madre pues no solo la regaña cuando tiene que hacerlo sino que le brinda comprensión y amor. Por años las niñas vivieron en paz en ese colegio ya que la dueña de la propiedad estaba feliz con eso y amaba a las niñas, pero después de su muerte su esposo heredó la propiedad y decidió venderla, algo que puso muy tristes a las niñas pero en especial a Madeline, porque al ser huérfana tendría que ser reubicada en un orfanato y desde luego ser separada de la monja que siempre la ha cuidado, así que cada día inventa un nuevo plan para sabotear los intentos del nuevo dueño de la casa de venderla a posibles compradores, y todo se vuelve más divertido cuando el embajador de España se muda a la casa de al lado y su travieso hijo se une a las locuras de Madeline.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
The film has a rather simple and even cliché plot in terms of what it has to do with films about orphans or troubled children, you know, we saw something similar in ‘Problem Child’ and also in ‘Home alone’ children who drain frustrations, sadness and lack of attention through misbehaviour, doing mischief and things like that, but it's still fun and at that time these kind of films were very popular, but despite being a naughty girl, Madeline has a tenderness and a grace that the kids in the previous films I mentioned don't have.
La película tiene una trama bastante simple e incluso cliché en cuanto a lo tiene que ver con películas sobre huérfanos o niños conflictivos, ya saben, vimos algo parecido en "Problem Child" y también en "Home alone" niños que drenan frustraciones, tristezas y falta de atención a través de un mal comportamiento, haciendo travesuras y cosas así, sin embargo no deja de ser divertido y en esa época además este tipo de películas eran muy populares, no obstante, pese a ser una niña traviesa, Madeline tiene una ternura y una gracia que no poseen los chicos de las anteriores películas que mencioné.
The film is full of clichés and French stereotypes, but one of the things I like the most are the beautiful landscapes of Paris, the cameos of the triumphal arch and of course of the beautiful Eifel Tower, are a delight to watch.
La película está llena de clichés y también de estereotipos franceses, pero una de las cosas que más me gusta son los hermosos paisajes de París, los cameos del arco del triunfo y desde luego de la bella Torre Eifel, son una delicia para la vista.
I remember something very particular that happened some years ago while I was watching this film, at that time I had a very acute pain in my belly that didn't let me enjoy the film, and to top it off there was a scene where Madeline was also suffering from an acute pain in her belly, and when the nun took her to the hospital she was diagnosed with appendicitis and had to be operated on, and guess what? I had appendicitis too, only in my case my appendix burst and complicated into acute peritonitis, so my surgery was more complex than Madeline's, but in the end, after a long recovery everything went well 👌.
Recuerdo algo muy particular que sucedió hace algunos años mientras yo veía esta película, en ese momento yo tenía un dolor muy agudo en la barriga que no me dejaba disfrutar a gusto del film, y para colmo había una escena en la que Madeline también estaba padeciendo de un dolor agudo en la barriga, y cuando la monja la llevó de emergencia al hospital le diagnosticaron apendicitis y tuvieron que operarla, y pues ¿adivinen qué? yo también tenía apendicitis, solo que en mi caso mi apéndice estalló y se complicó en una peritonitis aguda, así que mi cirugía fue más compleja que la de Madeline, pero al final, después de una larga recuperación todo salió bien 👌.
Madeline was not a girl looking for attention, she just wanted to defend tooth and nail that place that had represented for her a haven of peace, she did not want to lose the friendship of the other girls who were like her sisters and much less wanted to be separated from the nun who was like her adoptive mother, she was terrified of the idea of doing nothing in the imminent danger of losing her home, she was an irreverent girl who would not stand idly by, but being so small she did not know how to channel her emotions. My favourite scene is where she is so full of frustration that she decides to confront Lord Covington, the owner of the house, at first he takes it as a lack of respect, but then he understands that the only thing that motivated him to get rid of that place was the pain of having lost his wife, and that getting rid of that house was a decision that would hurt a lot of people.
Madeline no era una chica en busca de atención, ella solo quería defender con uñas y dientes ese lugar que había representado para ella un remanso de paz, no quería perder la amistad de las otras niñas que eran como sus hermanas y mucho menos quería que la separaran de la monja que era como su madre adoptiva, le aterraba la idea no hacer nada ante el peligro inminente de perder su hogar, era una niña irreverente que no se quedaría de brazos cruzados, pero al ser tan pequeña no sabía como canalizar sus emociones. Mi escena favorita es donde ella está tan llena de frustración que decide enfrentarse a Lord Covington, el dueño de la casa, al inicio él lo toma como una falta de respeto, pero luego comprende que lo único que lo motivó a deshacerse de ese lugar fue el dolor de haber perdido a su esposa, y que deshacerse de esa casa era una decisión que lastimaría a muchas personas.
She made him understand that his wife was still alive in the school in some way, because when she was alive she loved that place. Madeline also empathised with him and his pain because she too had lost her family.
Ella le hizo entender que su esposa aún seguía viva en la escuela de alguna forma, porque cuando estaba viva ella amaba ese lugar. Madeline además se identificó con él y su dolor porque ella también había perdido a su familia.
All in all, it is a beautiful film to watch alone with the family as it is full of funny, amusing and also thoughtful scenes, it is a film worth remembering. Thank you very much for reading this review, see you soon, thank you for your support 😊.
