A Few Thoughts about Twin Peaks In Memory Of David Lynch

And he left. Probably to the Twin Peaks woods, to the red wigwam. And now he sits with Laura Palmer, drinking strong black coffee, elegantly eating cherry pie. A cigarette is smoldering in his hand, and next to him, at the next table, sits a woman with firewood. She talks quietly about owls, which are not what they seem. A melody familiar to us is playing. Agent Cooper tells Diana his dream. A little man dances strangely, a giant waves his hand with a sad face...

In its time (and it was the beginning of the 90s), the series broke all conceivable records of popularity. Back then, Twin Peaks was called more than just a great TV series. Many people grew up with it, lived in it, showed it to our children, and they, I want to believe, will show it to their own.

Moreover, at that time, there were no such crazy special effects and stunning computer graphics, but literally from the first frames, a mysterious and intriguing atmosphere, skillfully created by a talented creative team, covers you.

Director David Lynch has constructed the narrative masterfully! It seems to be very calm, without any pathos, and as if deliberately ordinary. There are no fancy special effects, no dizzying chases, no dangerous stunts... And at the same time, the plot is very twisted, immediately captivating and subtly intriguing, constantly adding new faces and new, amazingly unexpected turns.

Twin Peaks was another world. Unseen, scary, unheard of, indescribable, with so many codes that we were not able to crack them all the first time. And only later did we realize that the brilliant David Lynch was talking to us about the duality of human nature and the evil within us. The day will come and someday, in that red wigwam, we will meet our true selves.

After 16–17 years, having already grown up, I decided to rewatch it. Not even that. Invitably I caught myself thinking that I don't remember anything from the series, except for Laura's death and letters under my nails. And I always wanted to watch these series. But series age stopped me. It seemed to me that the series is so old that it will be completely irrelevant in modern life and will not fit into what I like to watch today.

But still, quite recently, I was sick and lying at home and was looking for something to watch and came across this series. I turned it on. And I was amazed by the entire first season, which I watched in one breath. Master's work is exactly forever. And today I can say that this series does not have time. It even stands out a little in terms of quality, although technology has come a long way during this time.

Of course, you watch the first season and Lynch's work with great pleasure. In the second season, they went from normal work into the dark forest of mystics and clearly got lost there. Because they overdid it and confused it so much that even Lynch couldn't unravel it. Here is an example of chasing profit without thinking about quality. And it is completely appropriate why the series failed.

But I will still watch the series to the end. I am interested. Moreover, it is good to refresh my memory before starting to watch the latest season, which was released after 17 years. And this time, Lynch directed series himself. But this is a completely different story.

Twin Peaks was my first acquaintance with Lynch, once upon a time, back then. We didn't understand all the multi-layered meanings of that film, but we felt a lot of things intuitively. All the actors seemed unrealistically beautiful.

As I said, years ago, I didn't understand all the meanings in the films. But intriduing Lynch's films attracted me so much. It's as if you sense something, it stirs some depths, shakes the surface, and then you think one way or another. And those daily appearances on Instagram, where he told about the simplest things in a few sentences. May he rest in peace.

We are always fascinated and attracted by a beautifully presented mystery - mystical, a little frightening, but that's what makes it fascinating.

Tonight, the owls of the sky will be calling out to you. Have a good journey, Genius. You were and will remain more than you seem.
