Renfield 2023 A gory take on toxic relationship

image.png

Whether it’s a boss, a partner, or just friend, you might come across a toxic person and you’re caught up in their toxicity. This toxic relationship is often leaving the other person helpless and doesn’t know that they’re co-dependent nor know how to get over it. But, Renfiled shows you in a comedic way that with some self-affirmation mantra and courage, you might get out of a toxic relationship that weights you down.

A few weeks ago, Renfield came into my attention when I saw it all over Movies & TV shows community. It even caught @namiks attention and he wrote a review on it too. Well, it must be a big deal, right?

So, I decided to give it a try the other day, especially after watching numerous war movies, I need a little comedy in my life.

I first assumed that Renfield was just another count dracula’s story and a boring one. I was assuming just because Nicholas Cage was on the poster, it must be why people were watching that.

Anyway, what could go wrong? There I was, watching the movie and finding entertainment amid this ferocious movie that runs for 93 minutes.

Renfield gives a fresh spin into count dracula tale by giving the highlight to Renfield, his servant that would do anything for him. When I compared it to the novel by Bram Stoker, there are many differences but I definitely enjoy the comedic, over-the-top performance from Nicholas Cage and Nicholas Hoult.

The movie started with a flashback when Renfield was attending a support group that deals with people who are co-dependent and is with a toxic relationship. While each of them told their story, Nicholas Hoult as Renfield listened and one time while attempting to help one of the girl from the support group, his life was about to change. In of of the scene, he mentioned that he wanted to lead a normal life, a better life than staying in a run down building that was basically their lair for many years. When he eventually managed to get out of those, the dracula was manipulating him once again and Renfield was ressisting to get out of those manipulation by chanting some mantra from the self-help books.

! [Hidden Spoiler Text] Alas, his effort were in vain but not long after, it came with a bloody happy ending.

It was quite action-packed, gory, violent and graphic. I certainly do not advise to watch this while eating. This movie can be quite gross and if you have lower tolerance to any blood, definitely do not. Watch with caution.

Renfield looks great to me. I haven't seen it but I want to know how the character deals with Dracula.
Excellent review.

Muchachon looks like Nicolas Cage in the thumbnail, oook so namik hablao about this too, I see he likes comedy, I remember one about a bear with an addiction problem 😂😂.

oooook yeah, it's nicolas cage, i go for the part you mention him 😅😅, Yes i will watch the movie just for that, i like super heroes and there was a moment where nicolas cage put on a superman costume.... it was traumatic O_o but I want to see that superman and for other movies, Nicolas Cage has my respect and all his movies catch my attention.

I didn't have high hopes for this movie, but from the way you tell it sounds incredibly entertaining! I love how it tackles the topic of toxic relationships in a comedic way, I think we all know a little bit about that. I'll definitely keep it in mind for a night of laughs and who knows, maybe some scares.

Thanks for sharing 😄

🤣 pretty entertaining tbh just make sure you're okay seeing blood all around.

avatar

Hahahaha, I love gory movies, so a little blood is ok 🤣🙈

I was waiting for it to be released, I liked the look of the trailer, looked funny, plus I always like Hoult's movies and I haven't seen Cage in a long time.

I didn't know it had already been released Mac, thanks for reminding me ¡now I know what to watch this weekend! 🤗💖

avatar

😄 It's been released a while and it took me a while to watch it as well. But definitely recommended movies.

I found it very entertaining, by far the best is Nicolás Cage as Dracula... however, he was quite meeh in other aspects, I think he could get more out of this premise.

PS: I really liked the visual references to the classic version of Dracula, the one played by Bela Lugosi.

Do you think there would be Renfield 2? I mean it seems like this movie quite captured people's interest and attention.

avatar

This could be a better movie, at least it was acceptable...

Yep! so many things could have been improved!
