Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss (2023)- A Happy Wanderlust
“ All things considered, colder is happier. The implications of this are tremendous. Maybe we should all be vacationing in Iceland, not the Caribbean.” Wrote Eric Weiner in Chapter 5 about Iceland.
Eric Weiner was on a quest to find happy places and discover, what makes these people happy. Eric previously visited places that he deemed unhappy such as Iraq and Indonesia. Yet through The Geography of Bliss, he narrates his travelogue to “happy places” and his first destination was Netherlands. In this journey, he’ll take you to discover how these places defines Happiness and their way of living. It’s an interesting travelogue that partly inspired myself to the idea that we’re going somewhere with a question and curiosity. It’s not just about the sightseeing but also a way of life, a culture, and different facets of life. Then, the other day I found out that there’s a TV series about it with Rainn Wilson as the cast.
Rain Wilson in this TV series is quite comical. It sort of fits his role after his famous image as Dwight in the TV series titled The Office. His face is also a meme everywhere and now that he’s on a quest finding happiness throughout the globe, sort of adds more comedic element to it. The first episode aired on 18 May with Iceland being the first country visited in this TV series. In the whole season, there are only 5 episodes. He takes us to visit Iceland, Ghana, Bulgaria, Thailand and back to the United States.
There are some differences and similarities with the book by Eric Weiner. For example, Iceland in the book was on the chapter 5 and it wasn’t the first country on the list. But the concept of the tv series are pretty much the same. So, if you’re curious what makes people happy in these countries, this TV series is worth checking out. Not only you’ll traverse with Rain Wilson and see cinematic footage, you’ll also learn new things and it makes you want to pack your bag and wander.

Once someone told me that if I wanted to live in a place that would make me happy I should go to Holland, but I thought that happiness is inside me, now I think he was right, because with the 100 plagues of Egypt over my country Venezuela, being happy is so difficult and far away.
The cold is another curiosity that I think he is right because people who go out with very cold water are healthier and that is more happiness.
I didn't know about this man, I have seen him but I didn't know about the series, I would like to see him.

Yeah, the cold weather theory is interesting to me. But there are also outliers where hotter climate, like Thailand makes people happier too. I think it has to do with the buddhism and their ways of living that makes them happy.

Iceland has been my ultimate travel destination and I'm so happy reading about it in the book.
Yeah! the book is really fun and makes you want to travel to the places mentioned there. I wanna go to Bhutan because of that book but it's super expensive haha. So maybe one day!
I am really surprised how interesting the story of a man in his curiosity to find happiness is, monks have a great discipline, that's why they are extremely p and controlled people for life, I particularly love their style of meditation.
Thailand is just one of the countries in that series. You'd see quite a few places in there and will see quite a bit of things over there.
