Not Others (2023) Review

Family is always complex and there are countless stories out there telling the complexities of family. In society like South Korea, being a single mother was stigmatized and this is something that Not Others, a South Korean family drama film wanted to put into the screen. Being a single mother is challenging and raising a child is not an easy job either. However, in Not others it’s shown that the bond between the mother and the child is much more like a friendship and everyone seems equal and respectful in that relationship. This drama is starred by Sooyoung, the member of girl’s generation and Jeon Hye-Jin who are already frequenting K-drama and films. While the other deuteragonists are Ahn Jae-Wook and Park Sung-Hoon. Since this is currently airing, there are only up to 6 episodes on Viu. Anyhow, without further adieu, let’s dive into this drama.

Kim Eun-Mi became a single mother after spending the night with Park Jin-Hong when she was in Highschool. Jin-Hon disappeared and transferred to another school without knowing that Eun-Mi was pregnant. Years passed and Eun-Mi now has a daughter Kim Jin-Hee, a police officer who treats her mother just like her friends. One day, a mysterious man appeared in the neighborhood while a murder was happening. Eun-Mi was almost kidnapped and harmed. While both of them have had relatively a good life, suddenly Jin-Hon reappeared into their life and wanted to get closer to them. But will they eventually be together?

This drama is quite fresh and is talking about the topics that are seemingly taboo in South Korea. It’s comedic with a dash of thriller that hooks you up and makes you want to see more of it. They’re available on stream from VIU or you can also wait until they finish up all the episodes.
