Is Netflix subscription worth it?

I haven’t been subscribed to Netflix for a long time yet now, I decided to go with it again.

Before subscribing back, the only time I am watching them is when I go out with friends or be in a hotel that has Netflix. Otherwise, I only use VIU subscription since I mainly watch Korean film and K-drama on my phone. But after finishing D.P and their second season is Netflix only, I was convinced to subscribe again. I was actually pretty surprised of the pricing as it’s cheaper than VIU and has better streaming quality. With VIU, I often get delays and though I can pick the resolution, I was rarely able watching 720p with the internet I have. Strangely, with Netflix, 720p was pretty much doable and I was also surprised that I didn’t have to adjust my internet.

I am not so much of a person who keeps following the latest film. I enjoy watching random things that piqued my interest. When people are complaining about the film content being flop, I wouldn’t say so. In the past, I didn’t get the chance to watch many films. In fact, I never had any time for it. But now, I have all the time in the world to sit inside and watch movies. Some movies that I wanted to re watch are there so, I was more than happy with the subscription. It took me a while to justify it though and whether I should be back with VIU. Now, comparing the two, just in terms of cost alone, I’d go with Netflix. It’s somehow cheaper where I am from and considering the library of series and films, I made a good deal.

Over the weekend, I finished solid 42 hours of movie and series. I’ll be reviewing them soon as I’d like to enjoy first and go back over to analyse and check out the soundtracks or even dialogues in it. So, is it worth it where I am from? Totally. At least personally it has everything I want to watch and my list keep getting bigger!

It's worth it if you want to watch some nice series then Netflix is for you.

avatar

yep, some of the series and movies I want to watch are there too

avatar

Right, I had a great experience with Netflix so I bet you will so have fun and enjoy watching 🤗

avatar

I think having Netflix is a good investment if you have the time to watch it. In my country it's not that expensive either it's just the cancellation process is somewhat cumbersome.

I too prefer to watch the movie and then in a quick second viewing I do the review.

avatar

I see, where i am from you can just do it through monthly basis. So, essentially you're not really subscribing for 12 years but only month-to-month. It's super convenient cause you can always just let it be even when you don't want to subscribe anymore.

avatar

Check these

https://gomovies.sx/ (for netflix movies)
https://myasiantv.ac/ (Asian TV series and movies)

All for free here.. You don't need subscriptions hehe..

avatar

I know those and almost all free sites to watch movie. Sometimes I just want to watch with convenient😃 because with those free sites, the quality is pretty poor especially when it comes to to network issues and speed. Just like @teknon said. Besides, it's not too expensive for a subscription over here.

avatar

For me availing a netflix subscriotion is very worth it because its my happy pill when I am experiencing struggle in life. 😅

avatar

How much is it in PH for the basic subscription? I read the pricing is different in each country.

avatar

My netflix plan is netflix premium worth 549 pesos or around $10 per month

avatar

Oh wow, that's quite huge difference! I got the basic one for one person and it's 4$/month.

avatar

Is that the cheapest plan? The cheapest plan in our country is $3 , but that is just for mobile and 1 device only..

avatar

I think I've seen most things, pretty happy I'm hitchhiking off someone else's sub!

avatar

haha lucky! thankfully it's just me so,I am not sharing it with anyone 😆

avatar

I prefer Netflix to any other movie streaming app. I mean I agree with the quality resolution, it's perfect to me plus they have many options and don't delay when it comes to network issues. Subscription in my country goes as low as $2 but movies are very limited with that price. For unlimited movies, the subscription is $5. It's cheap and worth it.

avatar

Right? it's what I am noticing with free sites that also comes with aids haha. Also compared to viu, it exactly what you said. Sometimes my network isn't stable but I am suprised that my netflix was still consistent. I got mine for only $4 and it's already almost like a fully catalogue and can be used in three devices. but yeah, 5$ a month, it's worth it especially if you watch movie so often.

avatar

I do movies a lot when I'm on holidays. I love Netflix and I don't mind the price of their subscription. Lol

avatar

Laughs, Netflix is busy trying to maximize their profits.... We lent someone's account and as of two months ago we aren't able to log in anymore since the password crack down... Something something....

What they thought would happen is that me and the Betty would get our own account... Not happening... So what's happening now is they lost our traffic to their website.... So they lose even more.. I'D much rather just wait and download what I want

avatar

I recall that problem sometime ago. I am not sure if it's how it works over there too but where I am from, we have the up to 4 people subscription for 11$ and 2 people for 7$. I would say as long as it still with the family, the cost is pretty reasonable. But yeah, I get it, pirating would be reasonable for some.

avatar

I'd say if you're really into korean dramas, Netflix is great. If not, I prefer prime video.

avatar

Prime is even cheaper but they don't have some of the things I genuinely want to watch. So, it's why I choose it. What's the difference with netflix? does it have better quality or simply just cheaper?

avatar

No not from a price point of view. I guess it depends on one's preference of shows. Most of the shows I watch or watched are on prime. I use netflix mostly for k dramas.

I have access to both, and in terms of interface - netflix is actually much smoother than prime.

Quality - again, Netflix better in my opinion. But it comes down to the shows I like which is why my preference if I had to choose would be prime. But I decided not to choose and get both 😂

avatar

Something that potentially caught my attention was to watch: Witch in the Court that series I saw a couple of years ago is charming and more for the context about the law. I think it all comes down to our tastes. I want 42 hours to watch movies. Share hahahaha.

Enjoy.

avatar

You definitely can do that during the weekend hehe. That's what I do too. When it's Friday, I am just focusing on my movies and nothing else.

avatar

I've had my Netflix account inactive for a while now, but in October I'll activate it because I want to watch some anime and see what releases it has regarding horror films and series, and if I find something interesting that will keep me hooked for more than a month, then I'll keep paying the subscription.

avatar

what kind of horror movie would you recommend me on Netflix?

avatar

Hi @macchiata , sorry for my late reply.

I always try to watch some Netflix original production or use that platform to distribute some film or another.

For example.
"May the Devil Take You", 1 and 2.
"Train to Busan."
"Peninsula" (sequel to Train to Busan).
"#Alive"

They have "The Host" directed by Bong Joon-ho, that movie I want to see.

There are many more, I don't name you the ones that are Netflix originals because they are not good, I think the "Fear Street" trilogy is the most entertaining and if you haven't seen it, I recommend it.

There are also Mike Flanagan's series, the two focused on mansions and the one premiering next month based on Edgar Allan Poe stories.

avatar

Once in awhile they will have a good (unique series). I would say 2/3 months it's worth it, but there are months that go by with nothing worthy of having a membership.

Given that I said 2/3, so 66% of the time it's worth it. So yes, in that sense it is!

It's relatively cheap also.

avatar

Since it's not really a committed subscription, I think it's worth it too. I don't care much about new series but I am mostly watching older series or series I am genuinely curious about.
