Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP (2020) Review

While browsing through films with Zoo theme, I stumbled upon this South Korean film titled Mr. Zoo. I was pretty skeptical if it’s not really funny and was a flop but it ended up becoming pretty fun to watch. There are two Zoo themed movies that I watched. One is this Mr Zoo: the missing VIP and the other is Secret Zoo. Carrying the same theme, I think Mr. Zoo is even more comedic than the other one.

It tells the story of NIS agent Joo Tae-Joo who has obsessive cleaning disorder and hates animals. He resented them and never let animals come near to him. However, he was suddenly tasked with escorting a panda that was given from China to South Korea as a form of their soft diplomatic efforts. However, the panda was stolen and during the chase, he fell down and hit his head. After waking up, he was suddenly able to hear animal talk and it surprised him. But because of his ability to talk to animals, he managed to bring the VIP back with the help of a military dog named Ali.

In my opinion, it was just a movie that you can watch if you’re bored or about to sleep. It stars a few senior South Korean actors and though the acting was quite good, what was entertaining was the animals and how they talk with each other. I feel like with comedy and fantasy, it’s really that lightweight and almost nothing that comes out of it other than it serves as purely entertainment and great to watch while winding down.
