ダンジョン飯 Delicious in Dungeon Latest Anime On Netflix

If you are a fan of anime with a dash of cooking in it, other than とんでもスキルで異世界放浪メシ (Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill) there’s a recent netflix released anime, DnD ( Delicious in Dungeon) or ダンジョン飯. They both share similarities and even fall under the same genre except, campfire cooking is an isekai and delicious in dungeon is a full fantasy. Since it only airs one episode, there are many more arcs that will surprise us in the following episode as seen from the trailer.

The story premise is based on a guild consisting of a knight, two magicians and a locksmith who travel together trying to find the magician from the Golden castle. It is said that anyone who can defeat the magician is promised riches from an underground prosperous kingdom.

On a mission to find the magician, a group of adventurers from Laios’s guild encounter a red dragon who injured their party. They have lost a lot of supply and fell into that trap as they were lost due to their wrong map valuation.While trying to turn back and run from the dragon, one of their party members, Falin, is eaten by the red dragon before casting a spell that forces everyone out of the depths of the dungeon.

Now, Laios, is a knight with social inept issues but very quick witted and knowledgeable about monsters. Apparently, Falin is Laois’s sister and as a brother, he wants to find her at all cost. While the rest of the party members resigned, he was left with Marcille, a half elf magician who is quite principled and goes by the book. Another one that also joins Laioss’ search for her sister is the locksmith, Chilchuck. But they face another problem, two of their members left the party and their provision runs out.

Laios proposes the idea that they can eat anything that exists within the dungeon. While Marcille first disagrees about the idea, as soon as she eats a hot pot made of scorpion monster and the mushroom with roots found in the cemetery level of the dungeon, she slightly changes her mind. During their journey, they are also joined by a dwarf chef named Senshi.

On their way to save Felin, they attempt to have an adventure exploring the dungeon until they’re able to meet the red dragon again. Senshi, has a different idea in mind where he wants to eat the red dragon and was thinking of making a burger out of it.

In the first episode, their adventure has taken them from the base of the dungeon, to the cemetery and now, the first basement floor. It has a jungle like view and basically the top of the golden castle which its building is located even deep underground. The structure of the Golden castle is revealed in the first episode and we are also given a tease on the possible monsters that they might turn into delicious meals or even delicacies.

While the ingredient is monsters that they kill, Senshi was making it look pretty palatable and scrumptious. If in campfire cooking, the main character knows how to cook, in this anime, Laios is knowledgeable on the monster and whether it’s safe to eat. And the chef isn’t Laios but Senshi, who knows how to mix the ingredients together as he mentioned his expertise on monster cooking for 10 years.

It may not be a serious anime and it’s not even an Isekai which tends to be popular. This one is quite comforting to watch and I look forward to watching all the other eps with its delicious cooking and the recipes that Senshi might make from the monsters found from the dungeon. Then, the main question would be, would Laios eventually save her sister?

On that note, I am not familiar with the studio but I dig the animation and characterization style as it has resemblance to campfire cooking, something that I followed really closely back in 2023.The soundtrack is also pretty dynamic. Anyhow, it’s a promising anime this year and worth checking out especially if you’re a foodie.
