Crypto Boy’s Netflix dutch drama: giving the bitconnect vibes

For audience that has been long in crypto, the scenes will feel like all too familiar. But for those who does not, it could give even more bad rep to crypto scene in general. The story centered around the life of Amir,who was technically unemployed and was a street hustler selling oil to grow beard. Apparently, the oil that he sold to teenager was past its expiry date and causing one of this client suffering from rash. He was quite hopeless as he wanted to also help his father who was struggling to save his restaurant.

Meanwhile, Amir was roaming around after delivering food, he entered an event, a crypto event organized by Crypcore Capital whose boss was Roy, a charismatic person who pitches the idea that Crypto solves problem and that it’s time for regular people to grab the wealth. Eventually, Amir decided to come to the office the next day and he was suddenly making a pitch to a potential client and he ended up winning the deal. Life of Amir, who was a street hustler now turned into the “marketing” guy for Crypcore and he ended up convincing his father and his friend to also invest in the company. Long story short, it was revealed that crypcore is essentially a pyramid scheme and that Roy (Minne Koole),wasn’t actually as he told. He was pretty wealthy to start with and wasn’t actually the commoner that he attempted to portray when he gave the speech for Crypcore.

The story basically focuses on portraying gullible individual who got into crypto because the get rich quick scheme. During one scene, there was a guy who was attempting to talk about the essence of bitcoin and quoting sai but he was shunned and was laughed at. It showed that these people don’t actually care about the technology but was only after the money. The guys at crypcore were also partying and having fun in various exotic locations. It was the hedonistic side of crypto that was highlighted in it. Yet at the same, the main character was also quite desperate and gullible. We can’t entirely blame Amir, who was portrayed by Shahin El-Hamus.

Personally, the film itself lack of essence and the actor felt flat but hats off trying to portray the dark side of crypto with its ponzi schemes and opportunistic people. It wasn’t really something that I would recommend but it’s also not too bad if you want to reminiscence the day of bitconnect vibes. And that’s really all I can say about this drama from Dutch director Shady El-Hamus. It’s on netflix and recently released too. I wouldn’t really rate it that high considering the content of it but it was still quite okay just to watched what people think of crypto and how they wanted mass to think about crypto.
