Cafe Funiculi Funicula (2018) Where Past Meets Present
Before it gets cold....
Unlike regular cafe that you might visit, this cafe has a mystery surrounding it. While it is known as urban legend around town, people can’t believe that this cafe would be able to transform them to the past, to the time they wishes they could change something in their life. Nobody has tried nor actually prove it until, a 20-something female professional who is in love with her job, was adamant in trying going back to the past. The time when her love interest, confessing that she wanted t go to the US. She is Fumiko, one of the center character in this film. This film explores slices of life problem that might seem trivial but actually harbor complexities and shows us the intricacies of human's live and emotions.
Entirely in Japanese there is a sub version that you can check out, so you don’t have to worry of not understanding entirely of the film. Still when compared to the book adaptation, I get the tense and thrill from reading the book rather than watching the film. For those of you who haven’t read the book, it’s best to actually read the book than watching the film!
A mix of mystery, thriller as well as philosophical theme, this film makes an interesting and provocative film to watch. It is based on the book, “ Before The Coffee gets cold” byToshikazu Kawaguchi.However, the film adaptation, was simplified and was made less scary than the book. There are certainly difference between the two but being able to visualize the magic world of Cafe funicula was something. It is exactly how it was described in the book, a vintage ish cafe that in modern time would render as tacky.
In this movie, while you might not be too familiar with the actress or the actors, it's the story that hooks you. The complexicities of life that actually, while shrouded in mystery, we're close yet sometimes life makes us apart. Sometimes we also easily focuses on the past rather than the present moment. It invites you with a warm coffee, to look inward, whether you're also like the characters, too much focusing on regrets, the past, rather than the present moment and trying to fix it.

If it were horror, I would pass it by, but I find the plot of travelling back in time interesting because I think it's one of the things that humans still dream about. I would like to see it. Cheers.
It's not the kind of horror that you normally see. It's the kind of light horror and considering it's Japanese, this was really pretty light. I bet you'd actually like this one since it's not too bad.
I haven't seen this movie but the way you describe it is very interesting so I will try to watch it in the next few days and then let you know how I like the story.
