Autumn in Vineyard (2016) Review

If you’re currently uninspired looking through the latest hit from hollywood, youtube offers a few great selection free movies that are mostly within the romance comedy genre but once in a while, you get to find some action and thriller movies. So, just browse through some channels there and you can find a mostly feel-good movie. This time, I found in the vineyard, a series that offers a standalone plot. The one that I am reviewing today is Autumn in The Vineyard released in 2016 starring Rachael Leigh Cook and Brendan Penny. Anyhow, without further adieu, let’s dive into this movie.

Frankie Baldwin lives in a small town that’s known for its vineyard. She is also the daughter of a vineyard owner much like Nate DeLuca who is part of DeLuca family. Both of their families are rivals in business but Frankie and Nate used to be a couple back in highschool. Years passed while Nate was chasing his PhD, Frankie still works at her father’s vineyard. Eventually when Frankie’s father decided to hire another person for managing the Vineyard, she buys the land not knowing that Nate DeLuca is also buying the land. During this dispute, they ended up living together despite having a sour relationship. As time passes, both of them reminisce about the old days and grow closer. Frankie, who developed her own wine, attempted to make a deal with an investor but it wasn’t an easy road, especially since the land is still under dispute. During a competition among farmers, Nate wins the first round. Before going to the second round, Frankie finds out that his father’s vineyard is caught on fire. Rushing to contain the fire, Nate was also rushing to the vineyard and helping Frankie. Having a standoffish with her father, eventually Frankie and her father reconnects. At the same time during the final round of the competition, Frankie wins with her wine recipe. As each of them rekindle the relationships, it ends on a good note with Nate and Frankie rekindle their relationship.

This film is a feel-good one and though the storyline is classic, what I appreciate about it is the cinematography that’s vivid and fresh. The colours were popping and the wardrobe of its cast really matched the title, autumn. It also got me wondering about the cinematography of a romantic comedy and I found this channel that talks about lighting for romcom. He mentioned in the video about the placement of light that creates an ambience depending on the scene. Check out this channel if you want to learn more about lighting because apparently, it’s pretty important and a key to a good film.
