M3GAN is a horror and science fiction movie that was released in 2022 and revolves around an artificial intelligence doll that has gone mad. To be honest, I didn't think a movie about killer dolls would leave me questioning what I had just seen. James Wan and Jason Blum are some of the people responsible for it, so I was expecting something pretty powerful, but I found the movie to be a strange mixture of horror, comedy and social satire that I still don't know how to process. The movie has this whole concept of technology and how it turns against people that isn't very original, it's like they mixed the story of Frankenstein with some technological fears and social networks and what resulted was a horror comedy and a confusing genre all in one, but I can't deny that I laughed.

The main character in the plot is robotics engineer Gemma, who is developing a toy known as M3GAN, a super-intelligent artificial intelligence doll that aims to be the perfect playmate for children. In theory this sounds great, however, things change when Cady, Gemma's niece, is orphaned after her parents die in a traffic accident and goes to live with her. Gemma is a workaholic and intends to turn M3GAN into a kind of tutor for Cady, she connects the doll with her niece in the hope that it will help Cady recover from the loss and at the same time give Gemma some space and this is where things start to get complicated as M3GAN is too protective of Cady as her tutor and does its job too well. At first the doll is helpless, it teaches Cady things and keeps her company but then it starts to become possessive and very protective, if it thinks something is a threat to Cady it gets annoyed easily and this even includes its own aunt, M3GAN has this attitude that it knows best and as time goes by it becomes more terrifying.

El personaje principal de la trama es la ingeniera en robótica Gemma que está desarrollando un juguete conocido como M3GAN un muñeco de inteligencia artificial superinteligente que pretende ser el compañero de juegos perfecto para los niños, esto en teoría suena genial sin embargo, las cosas cambian cuando Cady, la sobrina de Gemma, se queda huérfana después de que sus padres mueren en un accidente de tránsito y se va a vivir con ella. Gemma es una adicta al trabajo y pretende convertir a M3GAN en una especie de tutora para Cady, relaciona a la muñeca con su sobrina con la esperanza de que ayude a Cady a recuperarse de la pérdida y al mismo tiempo le de a Gemma algo de espacio y aquí es donde las cosas empiezan a complicarse ya que M3GAN es demasiado protectora con Cady como su tutora y hace su trabajo demasiado bien. Something that surprised me about this movie is the way they deal with violence, it's weird and it even looks like a comic or something, before committing a murder M3GAN does some silly dance moves and then it looks like it's in the Terminator movie. Throughout the film I was waiting for that explosion of horror and it never quite arrived at either horror or comedy, it's like when something wants to do two things at once and fails at both and although there are some moments that can be intense these are covered up by the silliness of the film.

Durante toda la película estuve esperando esa explosión de terror y nunca llegó del todo ni al terror ni a la comedia, es como cuando algo quiere hacer dos cosas a la vez y no logra ni una y aunque hay algunos momentos que pueden ser intensos estos quedan tapados por la tontería de la película.

Allison Williams plays the character Gemma and does what she can with what she has, I got the impression that her character was poorly written, she's supposed to be a brilliant engineer but she seems to have no idea what she's doing when it comes to dealing with people. Violet McGraw, who plays Cady, is not so bad, although most of the time she acts like a robot, although I liked it when she starts to wonder if having M3GAN was the best idea and M3GAN is something else, she shows something that is captivating and disturbing at the same time and she always gives that feeling that something is not right, the way she talks or walks is a bit scary.

Personally, I still can't decide whether I liked M3GAN or not. On the one hand, I think that in a way it tries to revolutionize the expectations of the killer doll genre and doesn't just repeat the same pattern over and over again. The film has style, at least that much I must say, but when horror and comedy are mixed, I don't think it's a positive thing. I think it failed in the attempt and when I did feel terror with the comedy or that singing and dancing routine, the film brought me back to reality. edy or that singing and dancing routine, the movie would bring me back to reality. The ending is a bit tense but also silly, there's a confrontation between Gemma, Cady and M3GAN interrupted by moments of embarrassment that make me wonder if I should be scared or laugh, as happens in these types of films that don't have a defined plot at the end they try to tie everything up and it seems forced and not very real, it seems as if they were too lazy to think that everything had to fit together, although I think they are preparing ing the ending for a second part but I don't know if that's a good thing, the only good thing I can say is that the final part sends a good message about not relying too much on technology, it's more like a warning. I don't want to say that M3GAN is a horrible or bad movie but I am convinced that it is not my style. Score 6/10.

Personalmente aún no me decido si me gustó o no M3GAN, por un lado creo que en cierto modo intenta revolucionar las expectativas del género de las muñecas asesinas y no se limita a repetir el mismo patrón una y otra vez, la película tiene estilo, al menos eso debo decir, pero cuando se mezclan el terror y la comedia no me parece positivo, creo que fracasó en el intento y cuando llegaba a sentir terror con la comedia o esa rutina de canto y baile la película me devolvía a la realidad. El final es algo tenso pero también tonto, hay un enfrentamiento entre Gemma, Cady y M3GAN interrumpido por momentos de vergüenza que me hacen preguntarme si debería estar asustada o reírme, como pasa en este tipo de películas que no tienen una trama definida al final intentan atar todo y parece forzado y poco real, parece como si les hubiera dado flojera pensar que todo tenía que encajar, aunque creo que están preparando el final para una segunda parte pero no sé si esto sea bueno, lo único bueno que puedo decir es que la parte final da un buen mensaje sobre no contar demasiado con la tecnología, es más bien como una advertencia. No quiero decir que M3GAN sea una película horrible o mala pero si estoy convencida de que no es mi estilo. Puntuación 6/10.
