Black Dog is the work of Guan Hu, who managed to hook me. It is a Chinese film that attracted attention at the Cannes Film Festival. It is a drama, a western, a social commentary film set in an ever-shrinking village in the Gobi Desert. The scenes are very beautiful and the whole film has a pale and depressing air that suits it quite well. The main character in the plot is Lang, a man who has just been released from prison and returns to his hometown which is just a pile of rubble and most of it will be demolished soon. Lang is not the most beloved guy in his town as he does not have a good reputation. He has a certain fame but now he is just a normal guy. he is part of a team that catches dogs, because this city has a problem with stray dogs and he comes across a black dog that everyone is afraid of because it has been bitten by a rabid dog. Well, Lang befriends the dog and that's where the emotional part of the movie unfolds, but it's not all nice, there's a part of the plot where the city gangster Butcher Hu has it in for Lang and Lang's father is an alcoholic.

Black Dog es obra de Guan Hu que consiguió engancharme, es película china que llamó la atención en el festival de Cannes es un drama, un western, una película de comentario social ambientada en una aldea cada vez más pequeña situada en el desierto de Gobi, las escenas son muy bonitas y toda la película tiene un aire pálido y deprimente que le queda bastante bien. El personaje principal de la trama es Lang un hombre que acaba de salir de la cárcel y regresa a su ciudad natal que es sólo un montón de escombros y la mayor parte será demolida en poco tiempo, Lang no es el tipo más querido de su ciudad ya que no tiene buena fama tiene cierta fama pero ahora es un tipo normal, forma parte de un equipo que se dedica a atrapar perros, porque ya se sabe que esta ciudad tiene un problema con los perros callejeros y se encuentra con un perro negro al que todo el mundo teme porque ha sido mordido por un perro rabioso. Pues bien, Lang se hace amigo del perro y ahí es donde se desarrolla la parte emocional de la película pero no todo es bonito, hay una parte de la trama en donde el gángster de la ciudad Butcher Hu se la tiene jurada a Lang y además el padre de Lang es un alcohólico.

The actors in this film are good, my favorite was Eddie Peng as Lang and there is also the dog, I don't like to watch films where dogs appear very much but this is a different case, the change of that scared little dog foaming at the mouth to becoming Lang's best friend is one of the best parts of the film. The director Jia Zhangke, who is quite famous in China, has a small role in this film playing the head of the team that goes out to hunt dogs. The rest of the actors are completed by strange characters there is a circus passing through the city, and it's a bit weird in this whole thing.

Los actores de esta película son buenos, mi favorito fue Eddie Peng como Lang y también está el perro no me gusta ver mucho las películas donde aparecen perros pero esta es un caso diferente, el cambio de ese perrito asustado y botando espuma por la boca a convertirse en el mejor amigo de Lang es una de las mejor partes de la película. El director Jia Zhangke que es bastante famoso en China tiene un pequeño papel en esta película interpretando al jefe del equipo que sale a cazar perros. El resto de los actores se completa con personajes extraños hay un circo que pasa por la ciudad, y es algo raro en todo este asunto.

Although Black Dog has a slow pace, I think that's a good thing for the movie because it allows you to become familiar with the whole environment and the characters. The movie mixes different genres. There are scenes that seem like film noir in which Lang hides around the city, and the next there are tender moments in which he is with the dog. Although it may seem crazy, I think Guan Hu has taken many different styles, mixed them and achieved something that fits. The fact that the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games are the setting for the whole story gives it a special touch because it's a huge event that encompasses the whole country but in this city there are only old posters and the feeling that things are changing, it's a good way of showing how China's development is leaving some areas behind.

Aunque Black Dog tiene un ritmo lento creo que eso es algo bueno para la película porque permite familiarizarse con todo el entorno y los personajes, la película mezcla diferentes géneros hay escenas que parecen de cine negro en la que Lang se esconde por la ciudad y al siguiente hay momentos tiernos en los que está con el perro, aunque pueda parecer una locura creo que Guan Hu ha tomado muchos estilos diferentes, los ha mezclado y ha conseguido algo que encaja. Que los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín de 2008 sean el escenario de toda la historia le da un toque especial porque es un evento enorme que abarca todo el país pero en esta ciudad solo hay carteles viejos y la sensación de que las cosas están cambiando, es una buena forma de mostrar cómo el desarrollo de China deja atrás algunas zonas.

Lang doesn't become perfect at the end of the film, but you feel that he has come to accept things as they are. The ending of the man-dog relationship is one of the most moving scenes I have ever seen, as if there were still hope in this cruel world and perhaps people could find each other and even find salvation, the ending gives the message that changes in one's life can be initiated by something as routine as rescuing a stray dog, it's not that the movie is going to teach you how to be better in life, it just tells you a small part of the story and leaves you to make your own assumptions.

No puedo dejar de mencionar el final que me pareció muy emotivo aunque no voy a contarlo diré que no es el final completo de Hollywood pero tampoco es deprimente, Lang no se vuelve perfecto al final de la película, sino que sientes que ha llegado a aceptar las cosas como son. El final de la relación hombre-perro es una de las escenas más conmovedoras que he visto, como si aún hubiera esperanza en este mundo cruel y tal vez las personas pudieran encontrarse e incluso encontrar la salvación, el final da el mensaje de que los cambios en la vida de uno pueden iniciarse por algo tan rutinario como rescatar a un perro callejero, no es que la película que se va a dedicar a enseñarte como ser mejor en la vida, simplemente te cuenta una pequeña parte de la historia y te deja que hagas tus propias suposiciones.

Although Black Dog is one of those slow-paced films that not everyone likes and some parts of the plot fall short, such as the secondary stories that seem as if they lacked more development, the atmosphere, the actors and the central message of man and dog are a good reason to see this film, and the fact that it jumps from one genre to another from time to time is very well done by the director. it is a simple film but it has passion, and its message makes you think and reflect. Score 7.4/10.

Aunque Black Dog es una de esas películas de ritmo lento que no le gustan a todo el mundo y algunas cosas de la trama fallan como por ejemplo las historias secundarias que parecen como si les faltó más desarrollo, el ambiente, los actores y el mensaje central del hombre y el perro son una buena razón para ver esta película, además que ese saltó de un género a otro de vez en cuando está muy bien hecho por el director, es una película sencilla pero tiene pasión, además de que su mensaje te hace pensar y reflexionar. Puntuación 7.4/10.
