FIRE AND ICE (NOLLYWOOD MOVIE REVIEW)

When I saw the title of this movie, I thought it was going to be a ‘palava-palava’ kind of film.

You know, like one of those movies where one person is blowing hot and the other is putting calm to the storm kind of thing!

Well, it sort of did but not exactly what I’d tag “Fire & Ice” So, in that regard, the title may have been a teeny weeny bit misleading!

More so, upon seeing the cover photo, I had predicted it to be a story of two sisters where one is erratic, wayward, a shopaholic and black-sheep of the family and the other a level headed, easygoing, perfect daughter of the family.

This however proved different in many ways. Predictable all the same but was engaging, interesting and enjoyable.

SYNOPSES

Uche Montana Media, in conjunction with One & Two Films together with Uchenna Mbunabo brings to our screen this beautiful story of Kim (as herself), an event planner who somehow crosses paths with Abby (Regina Daniels-Nwoko) who is about to get married to Mark (James Gardiner) a son of the Benson’s whose mom is played by actress Thelma Chukwunem.

The rest of the story sees a rather shocking revelation of a secret Kim has kept for 11years which as fate may have it, connects to Mark and his mother.

MOVIE REVIEW

This was indeed interesting. Uche Montana brought all her elements to bare here and gave quite a performance. I found her hair really beautiful, too.

However, I find Regina Daniel’s acting a little bit off. Maybe, it’s just me but I didn’t like the braids she carried all through the movie. What was that?

Whereas, the other ladies changed their hair at different times, Regina only had that one throughout the movie.

Please don’t get me wrong, I prefer our African braids to the wigs and borrowed “human hairs” any day anytime.

It’s just that there are a million and one braided styles that would have been more befitting of someone who was planning a 150 million naira wedding.

The one she had on was not giving the vibes it should give. Come to think of it, who even did her makeup? The blushes were just blushing pink everywhere.

She had full makeup on wearing her pyjamas. Perhaps we should excuse that on the basis that we presume she would wipe it clean before actually going to bed. What do I even know about makeups and hairs.

I would have loved to see more of the first lady, Oroma from the very first scene of the movie.

I believe that was one of the best parts of the film which passed the most salient message of “do not judge a book by its cover!”

Kim’s PA Pat (Queendi Dudu) concluded that Oroma could not afford Kim’s wedding planning services given her outward appearance, but thought wrong.

Oroma was hilarious. I wanted to see her “huuuuuge wedding!” and her LOML. The producers silenced her part, including obliterating her name from the cast list! Not very fair.

Also, the choice of fonts used at the very opening cast rollouts was not a very good one as the words and names were illegible. One could hardly make out the writings. The background music was cool, though!

Overall, this was a good watch. It passed an old Nollywood message of “the stone that the builders rejected, which later becomes the chief cornerstone!”

As I mentioned earlier, this was predictable. Nonetheless, the interpretation was incredible. Loved the performance from our Ghanaian brother, James Gardiner. And the guy who played his friend as Obi (Emmanuel Macden) did great, too!

I’ll give this a 5.5/10.

I hope that this was interesting to read. Thanks for coming around.
