Hello everyone! This is my entry to CineTV Contest: Favorite Fighting Movie. I've watched a lot of movies about fighting and today I'll discuss about my favorite among them.

Rocky Film Series

When it comes to movies about fighting, the first thing comes to my mind is the Rocky Film Series. It's a sports drama about an underdog who was given the opportunity to shine in the world stage by fighting the heavy weight champion and how he worked hard inspite of challenges. The movie launched Sylvester Stallone's career and probably has reflections on his own life as he himself was down on his luck and grabbed his chance to be successful in his acting career.

Why I liked the movies

The movie is an inspiring story about doing one's best inspite of difficulties. You may be down in your luck but opportunities will come and when they do, you better do your best to seize it. It's not just about boxing, the story can be applied to any sport and Rocky probably served as a template on future movies about an underdog overcoming obstacles like The Karate Kid, No Retreat No Surrender or even non-fighting films like Cool Runnings.

The Music

The music in Rocky by Bill Conti are very inspiring and have been used in boxing ring walks numerous times. They're also great as a motivational music and used in work outs or just to cheer one up. Just listen to this and it will pump you up.

Favorite Scene

Rocky's jogging scene accompanied by "Gonna Fly Now" is my favorite scene of the series. Rocky, a common man, is cheered by his fellow Philadelphians recognizing that his victory will be theirs as well.

Later on, kids joined him on his run and later on we see a lot more people have joined. Rocky's fight is no longer just for himself but for people who seek inspiration from him (even the ones watching the movie). Finally we see the iconic scene where he climbed the steps and raised his arms.

Final Thoughts

What makes Rocky a great movie is not the action or fight scenes. It just used boxing as a medium to tell the story. What it's really about is the struggle to achieve greatness despite adversity, to take your shot, and to keep fighting even when you're knocked down. It's a story that audiences can relate to and serves as a powerful source of inspiration.
