We are all quite familiar with a mother’s love for her child, especially when it is her only child. It is always tragic when a mother loses her child, something no mother ever wishes for. The death of a child can affect a mother so deeply, enough to make a change in her.

The feeling of love between mothers and their children is quite familiar to me, which makes this movie more relatable to some extent. It has been a while since I watched movies. Watching films is one my hobbies, but I have just been watching anime for fun lately.

I got quite tired of movies since the storylines are mostly quite similar. I took a break from them so the storylines could feel new to me again. One thing I love about this movie was it was unique storyline. Although I have seen movies similiar to it, the ending was quite unexpected.

“Mother’s instinct” is a psychological thriller released in March 2024. This movie takes you into the realm of friendship, trust, love, betrayal and motherhood. It keeps you quiet on the edge of your seat.

This movie is set in 90’s America, with cinematography that suits it perfectly. The lighting and shadows that gives a little sense of mystery, contributing to the unsettling atmosphere. Not many character are involved, making the setting quite isolated and allowing you to follow each character’s perspective and emotions closely

Anne Hathaway stars as ‘Celine’ and Jessica Chastain stars as ‘Alice’. They both play an amazing roles as two housewives who are neighbours and apparently best friends. These two families live as though they are one family.

Celine is a collected and lively woman, while Alice is portrayed as anxious and insecure. Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain’s performances are perfect for the movie. Alongside other characters, they fit utterly into their roles.

The story starts as a lively one, with two families living a great lives. But it doesn’t last long. A tragic incident occurred, creating a crack in their friendship, and it doesn’t take long before there is a hole in their friendship, leaving the two best friends to question their bond.

There is a lot more to just being neighbours than proximity. A incident brings out a different picture of these two best friends. In this moment, we see the dark side behind those smiles. There are no longer smiles or laughter but tension and regrets that fill the atmosphere.

The two friends soon got caught up in a web of lies, jealously, secrets, insecurities, resentment and mistrust, which slowly ruins their friendship. But it doesn’t stop there; it slowly drags everyone and everything along with them.

This movie shows how humans feeling and emotions drive to them to reveal their true selves. It shows how strong a mother’s love is for her children and overall makes one question who they can truly trust.

This movie is a bit slow-paced. At first, you might find it boring, but as time goes on, you will find interesting details to ponder.

Overall, “Mothers instinct” is an acceptable thriller focused on friendship, motherhood, trust and self-deception. It features amazing performance, nice cinematography and a unique storyline.

If you are a fan of thrillers, then I would gladly recommend this movie to you. I will give it a solid 8.5 out of 10. To me, it just felt unique.

Wow, this movie sounds interesting. I find it fascinating how the film explores that darker and more complex side of the friendship between these two women. The dynamics of trust, jealousy and insecurities that develop sound extremely captivating. 👍
